Why cant 2 people in the same house have an account??

ok, i have had my account for 2 years now, currently restricted to 20 items a month due to 4 low seller ratings for p&P.

My brother tried to open an account last week to sell some items, he's just gon on today to have a look see how theyre doing and instead they have been removed and an email says as you are linked to this account (my ebay id) and that account is restricted then you cant sell either.

Basically 2 people, 2 bank accounts, 2 totally different ebay accounts who just happen to live in the same house and he gets shut down. I can see that they think its just me opening another account but how do we proove that its not. He really needs to make some money and im limited to £140 a month on 20 items so am struggling too. grateful for any help, thanks

my husband and I have separate accounts but we have both had them longer then we have lived together which is now ten years! has he not got another address he can use?

Possibly its because a new account was opened whilst your account was restricted so it looks like an attempt to get around restrictions.

eBay can't know that you are different people, 1 person can easily have 2 bank accounts and legitimately give them slightly different names/initials (say if I was called Susan but usually went by Sue and also had a middle initial), or even getting him to open an account on your behalf so you could get around your restrictions.

Suspect it would be less of a problem if he'd had the account for a while rather than jumping in to sell "some" items once you are restricted.

I think it is also based on IP address - I'm assuming you are both going through the same router so it will look like the same person.

I have no IP addresses, i understand it could look to them about getting around restrictions but hes genuinely not, just split up from his wife so is staying with me whilst trying to sell a few of the things hes left with such as couch, fridge etc. Never mind told him to try gumtree.

Just another annoying thing ebay have done to me lately!
