What does "unclaimed" paypal status mean?

I won a bike, collection only, and have just sent paypal payment.
My purchase details are showing an hour glass in the payment column, and "unclaimed" in my paypal account.
But the payment has gone from my account I think.
Now I feel wary about arranging to go & collect the bike, have I paid for it or not?
And will the seller want cash on collection?
Help, never happened before! I'm worried about paying twice, what would you advise?

I got 'unclaimed' once, it was when I had mis-typed the email address and the one I had sent it to didn't exist.

Double check the address you sent it to - if it is incorrect you should be able to cancel it and get the funds back, so you can send it to the right address.

I had this once when I put the wrong email address in the box for PayPal. Basically it meant that when the buyer sent the money, there was no PayPal account associated with that email address. Fortunately it was my email address I'd entered so I could create a new account and claim the money.

It means the email address is wrong, you need to log into your paypal and cancel the payment

And yes the seller should only ask for cash, never paypal for collected item.

Ok, thanks all for advice.
So, fergoose, should I contact the seller, ask him to cancel paypal, and offer cash on collection?
my Paypal account doesn't give me the option to cancel, it just says the money will be returned to my account after 30 days.
I am quite concerned that I'll give him cash, and then find the paypal has also cleared, and I won't have any comeback cos I've done a cash transaction.
Would you continue with this purchase, or not?
I really do want the bike, but not if it's dodgy.

no - you have to cancel the paypal payment - you go to paypal.co.uk - log in, click on the payment, scroll down and click cancel

Tell the seller the email address is wrong on the listing. I don't see why it is dodgy, he just prob made a typo on the listing

And cash on collection is standard, just check the bike thoroughly before handing over your money

i've had this too once; was also a misspelt email address.
