What to do?

I won a game on eBay for my DS which was brand new. It's a birthday present for his second birthday. Won it on the 23rd and it eventually arrived today.

Unfortunately, the seller only put my name, estate and postcode on the parcel. No house number or street and I wonder if this is why it took a while to arrive. It has also arrived damaged. The box has quite a bit rip/tear in it. I don't think the game is damaged but the box still has cellophane round it so I haven't opened it to check.

I don't mind giving it to my DS as he won't care if the box is damaged but I don't want to keep it if the game is damaged. I also don't want to incur costs returning it as it only cost just £5.50 anyway.

Any suggestions anyone?

It's quite difficult to damage the game cartridge itself, they are almost bombproof. If it plays okay now then it's as okay as it ever could be.

You could ask for a small (£?) partial refund for the damaged box (that reduces resale value from your perspective).

Whoops, perhaps I should have made that clearer, by game I mean a floor puzzle.

Thanks though :)

Oh sorry, I should have read more carefully.
You've got to inspect contents carefully, to decide what to do, no?

Do u think it's ok to open the box to do that? I'll have to take the cellophane off. I'm just worried if I do that and they are damaged the seller will say I've damaged them.

You'd be reasonable to take any course of action discussed so far, I reckon.
Why not contact the seller, explain your concerns & ask them what they would like you to do next?

NotADragonOfSoup · 02/02/2013 13:43

I wouldn't take the cellophane off until I'd spoken to the seller and discussed options.

Thanks guys, does this message sound ok?

Thanks for sending the floor puzzle. Unfortunately it has been damaged in the post on its way here. The box has quite a big rip/tear in it and without taking the cellophane off I'm not sure if it's damaged the game.

Can you let me know if you are happy for me to open it to have a look? If there is no damage I'd be happy to keep it but perhaps with a small refund to reflect that it's not in perfect condition. It was supposed to be a birthday present for my 2 year old, but he won't mind providing the game is ok!

Thanks

Completely reasonable.

Thanks. I've sent it so will wait and see what they say.
