Anyone noticed how many buyers are trying it on lately?!

I am just sick of it, I sell large quantities and over the last couple f years it has been getting worse and worse.

Some brief examples in the last months -

Someone claiming item hasn't arrived - when they have signed for it in their own name...

Someone breaking a (second hand) dress and asking for a refund a month after buying...

Someone saying a dress the wrong shade of fuscia and wanting a refund....

A buyer saying an item smelled and they wanted £20 for dry cleaning (it had just been dry cleaned)

I am so sick of it!!!

Yes. I had a successful business selling account for about 6 years. I shut it down this year. It's just not worth it anymore

It's the way it is run that's a problem. Twice now I have sold lovely items for a great price (Tap shoes and leli Kelly's) both times I posted regular first class as stated. Both times the buyer said they hadn't received the item and opened. Dispute. I responded but only could electronically had no track v number as I didn't send it recorded (as stated) both times the buyer left feedback for item but didn't close dispute therefore pay pal found in favour so I paid for people to have free items.
Never again.

Yes, it's hilarious. Just been forced to refund a seller who claimed the garment had 'evidence of being stored on a hanger'. It's a dress.

what's the situation if a seller wants to insist on sending recorded? can they make the buyer pay the extra?

only it does seem that's the only way to stop a lot of chancers

I do just that tell them it's recorded or nothing and charge accordingly. I've been giving to charity shops again I really can't be arsed until e bay review their policies. More onus on the buyer to prove the issue and humans to speak to when there is a problem not just a drop down menu.

Sending recorded doesn't solve everything. I have recently had one person saying a jacket had strangely short arms and could she send it back.

And another saying a bag only had two handles and not one long one, when I said this and listed measurements in the listing

and a nutty couple who bought a buggy for their ancient incontinent dog, who then died a week later. They didn't ask for a refund but I think it was hoped for. It was hard not to offer tbh but I didn't want a hairy buggy back.

You cannot win as a seller

ebay is shite

I am dreading the next round of selling.

I've had my first apparently undelivered item this month.

The buyer just kept saying "sadly the item has not arrived :("

I asked her to wait the recommended fifteen working days, and said that i would refund in full if therevwas still no sign of it. After the 15 days I asked again if it had arrived and got another "sadly not :(" so I refunded her in full, but I noticed that she would have been 20p short as a result of PayPal fees. I have not heard anything from her either to acknowledge the refund, query the amount or say it did arrive after all.

I smell a rat but there is nothing that I can do. She will be blocked from making further purchases when I get around to listing more items.

Guys you MUST send recorded delivery - or special delivery if the item is worth over a certain amount. Every Time.

DH got a message saying an item he'd sent was damaged - absolutely hadn't been when it was sent, and it was well packaged (and not a delicate item anyway).

DH offered full refund on retum of the item... suddenly buyer said oh never mind it's not that bad

i wish I did have to laugh at your buyers over use of sadly. Do you think she was depressed. My buyer even left feedback for the item she apparently didn't receive. But left the dispute open so I had to pay for her to have some shoes she described as "lovely"

But I've found that things really don't sell so well with the extra costs of sending recorded.

Things that sell for less than £10 I never send recorded.

She just seemed so pleasant about it all, and the use of sadly with the :( face made me think that she was sat there with her dc playing happily with the toy!

I'll never know, but hope that it doesn't become a regular occurrence.

I sell on ebay, etsy and folksy. Ebay is the only one I insist on recorded delivery postage on.

I post internationally on etsy and have only had one 'not received' item to Germany - which strangely turned up later that week after I scanned her a copy of the posting receipt and the form from the post office for 'missing' parcels and told her the post office would be contacting her for a signed statement saying she had not received the parcel .

I've given up listing clothes and stuff on ebay.

Delivery man signed MY name and left parcel outside a DIFFERENT door recently
IMO delivery companies and royal mail have got much worse recently
Same week a delivery man damaged my delivery as I watched (kicked it!)

We don't bother for most things anymore. We've made some money in the past and haven't had any terrible experiences but now unless I know for sure it'll do well I just can't be arsed. I am trying to declutter anyway so I keep telling myself that making space is more important than a couple of quid!

I sold one item for about £60 just before Christmas to a buyer with just a few feedbacks and sent it by courier, and I paid the extra £1.20 for a signature and £1.20 for insurance because I just couldn't be arsed arguing the toss over the holidays about non-arrival or damage or whatever.

The buyer was aware of how it was being sent and confirmed receipt in good order.

I wouldn't do that for most stuff, though - most things I sell probably go for about five to ten pounds.

I only send items recorded, it really isn?t that much more, and it is worth it to avoid being scammed.
I have learned not to give buyers an option with postage, I just list roal mail 1st class and a price and then send it recorded, when I used to list it as 1st class recorded I used to get a lot of people messaging me asking if I could send it 1st class standard for a cheaper price, so now I just don?t bother listing it.
