Hi, I've just successfully bid for an item in the US. Its an antique and the seller is an antiques business, has 100% positive reviews on 4000+ items. I asked about P&P to the UK and he gave me an approximate figure before bidding. TBH I didn't think about insurance, I presumed it would either be included or offered.

I've had what seems to be a default email which states "Shipping includes insurance "Within" the United States only. You will have to arrange for insurance for all winning bidders outside the continental United States."

I've emailed him to ask him to clarify. Presumably though its his fault if the item goes missing? I'll be paying through Paypal.

Note - Am happy to pay for insurance, but I wasn't expecting to have to arrange it myself!

Good question, this implies it's seller's problem to solve.

I think I would contact Ebay central to ask your questions. Their online chat supposed to be good. Partly depends what terms were stated in original auction, perhaps.

the insurance is to protect the seller not the buyer - and the seller should sort it out, not you.

Thank you for your advice, its appreciated! Seller has now replied and said he will cover insurance :)
