I am selling a few new branded items on Ebay, and it won't let me list them until I have verified my Paypal account by linking it to my bank account. Fair enough, but can anyone tell me why I have to fill in a direct debit guarantee form in order to do this? I don't want to set up a direct debit to Paypal! The only information I can see on the site tells me that once I have set up the direct debit, Paypal will send me two amounts of money to my bank account, and I then have to confirm what they are. My account will then be verified. But why the direct debit? Maybe I'm having a thick moment, but I just don't understand what I am being asked to do here!

Any explanations in plain English would be apprectiated! TIA

It guarantees that you are able to pay for stuff, move money to pay for stuff, refund things if necessary (and buy stuff should you choose).

Sorry meant to say also, you can also accept money from sales via PayPal and move across to your bank.

Thanks LineRunner, sorry I'm a bit late to come back to this. I probably haven't explained myself very well - I have been using Paypal for years, buying and selling on Ebay, and doing all the stuff you describe without being verified. It's just that now I have a few brand new items to sell it won't let me do it without me linking my Paypal account to my bank account. I understand what it means to be verified, but I don't understand why I have to fill in a direct debit guarantee form in order to do that Confused. Am I setting up a direct debit to paypal? And why? That's the bit I don't get...

Oooh, I see what you mean. Have you asked and got any sense out of eBay or PayPal?

I did it and it worked fine.
