Is it fair to say in feedback that item stinks of smoke

I ordered some lego, arrived this morning looks good, but the packing stank of smoke and when I opened it up the lego smells of smoke. Should I put it in the feedback or not. I am not sending it back or asking for money back, just dont expect it to stink of cigarettes.

I'll be interested in what people think of this, as I just got a fisher price cot toy, that stinks of smoke and is a bit grubby, which didn't show on the picture on the listing. But was well packaged (in smoke stinking packaging!) and I don't want to send it back as I don't want to pay return postage.
Not quite sure how someone can send out such a dirty thing that is meant for a baby. It cleaned up ok, but why not make the effort before you send it?

Smokers don't notice things stink.

I had a craft fabric sent to me once, not something you could wash repeatedly. I did wash it twice, hung it on the line for days etc but didn't get the smell out :( so ended up throwing it away. The packaging was vile.

So, I totally understand why you are pissed off - but if it didn't say 'comes from a smoke free home' then I don't think you can really be negative about it.

I would, so people know its a smoker home.

HavingKitties - some people just don't think/care. I have a good friend, but we are like chalk and cheese she just sends things out as they are - complete with her toddlers mucky hand prints, dust, grime etc. I took some stuff to the charity shop for her the other day (it was on my way home so she asked if I minded dropping it off) - but I brought it all home, washed the clothes, toys and kitchen stuff. There's no way I could have handed it over the state it was in, but it would never have occured to her to wash the stuff first! She's lovely, but....

Just found this tip on ebay for getting rid of smoke

"PLASTIC [or other washable] TOYS, ETC.

Bleach and vinegar won't get to some smells that plastic absorbs.

Try using kitty litter confined with the plastic item. Pack it as for books (above) pack it in there and leave it for a few days. If the toy is small enough, put it in the kitty litter bag from the store.

Dump them in the bathtub, with soap and vinegar.

Run them through the dishwasher."

May try that, will probably mention it, but we have sold a few things lately and dont put "smoke free home" will have to remind DH to put it on listing

I would message the seller first and see what they say - but I would mention it in the feedback too, is pretty grim to send stuff out in that state I reckon.

I think it's fair, after all they should state the item is coming from a smoking home.

I got something from Ebay the other day that was covered in dog hairs, had what looked like food on it (it wasn't a stain just food) and it smelt so badly of dog that when I opened the parcel I actually gagged and ran it in to my DP to say "smell this" and he gagged too. The seller hasn't even bothered washing it!

Woe, that's rank. Horrible to think that smokers are that accustomed to the stink that they don't even notice it, poor kid with the lego who had it originally as well!
As for the dog hairs everywhere previous poster put, that's pretty grim too. Do they not even NOTICE it's covered in hairs?!
This post reminding me why I always put "comes from a completely pet and smoke free home" on my listings!
In answer to your question, yes I personally would mention it in feedback. It'd be nasty to receive anything like that. As a completely smoke free home, the smell would stick out miles here and make me gag and I'd be wanting to tell future buyers from them to be warned! (In a polite way of course )

Yes, I would mention in feedback. Esp when buying a baby/child item, I think sellers should mention if they come from a smoking home, because that would affect many people's decision about whether to buy the item or not. Yuk! Good luck with getting the smell out.
