OMG. What is it with buyers at the moment?

I've just had a message from a buyer, saying can she have my address to return something.

It's a bag, she was the only bidder.

this is the listing.

This is what she says:

'Hi There
I am really sorry but I am not happy with this bag and would like to return it.
The picture didn't really show what it was like and I thought it was long handled : (
Could you send me your address for a return.
Thanks'

????

I stated in the listing that it has no shoulder strap, and gave the length of the straps. What was I supposed to do?

Do you think ebay will find in her favour if she opens a dispute? I've replaied saying I'm sorry she isn't happy but I gave the measurements and I'm not sure what else I could have done.

I don't think I'm going to sell anything on ebay any more - I've had enough.

it depends what she says in her dispute - in my experience they generally do find in favour of the buyer.

If she returns it to you they will just refund her.

Pain in the ass for that if there's nothing wrong with.

Some people are very entitled OP just re list it again hopefully you'll sell it again.

Technically she's the one who will be out of pocket because she'll have to pay the return postage not you.

I think I'll see what she does - if she opens a dispute I'll tell them it's as described, it's worth a try I suppose - just honestly, how much clearer could I have made it that the straps are 15" long?!

I've had a lot of buyers messing about lately, I could understand if I did crappy listings with no information, but I don't. I think she's just changed her mind.

i think your written listing is quite detailed, but i'm afraid i agree with her regarding the images. the photo's aren't good, difficult to see the whole bag and i would have had it with a plain background.

however, her issue is with the handles and in one of the photo's you can quite clearly see the handles, plus the measurements are provided, so if she opens a dispute saying it's not as described, she's stuffed on that one!

I don't think the photos are very good tbh. I always try and take mine in direct light and on a plain background, table cloth covering pillows to show at the best angle is good for handbags and shoes. Also ebay are likely to find in her favour. Can you not say you'll return what she paid you but not postage?

Thankyou - yes, I see what you mean about not showing the whole bag - most of it's in there, though!

Rooney, I don't think you've listed it badly at all and you can see the handles in the pics.

She should have asked you for measurements if she wasn't sure. It is very annoying for you though if she opens a dispute etc.

Yes the pictures are a bit close up aren't they, and the background doesn't help. That's our carpet Grin

Why did she bid though if she couldn't see it? It can't have been that confusing. It's not like it looks like a different bag or something.

I might offer her that option, CaptainKirk - does anyone know if you can do that, safely, without their opening a dispute? I'm just worried I'll refund and she'll open a dispute afterwards, iyswim, and I'll have to refund again.

leda - the measurements are already in the listing, it says 15 inches.

maybe she thought it meant 15 inches from bag to shoulder as opposed to complete strap length? although, i reckon now she's seen it in the flesh, she's simply changed her mind, and is picking out the straps as being her excuse.

It has to be an excuse, because her reasons don't make any sense.

She just doesn't like it - fair enough, neither do I! But I'm so sick of it all, I'm having a baby in a few weeks and don't want things back....I want people to buy them and keep them!

It clearly states in the description the length of the handles.She is clutching at straws regarding the picsI would let her open a dispute.I cannot stand this sort of buyer.

And you gave the length of the strap for crying out loud.

Some sellers do deliberately use poor/few photos and very little description to disguise a shabby item, but frankly that is what the question facility is for. Only and idiot would not realise that!

Just send her a polite but firm reply telling her to take a running jump.

Thankyou all...

I wouldn't mind so much if there was something wrong with it that I had missed, but I checked it thoroughly, and there's not - afaik!

It's sending me a message with the title 'item not as described' which suggests it's all my fault, and saying she thought it was different, when I actually bothered to write down all the measurements in case of any doubt.

I just think, what on earth? I mean if you're going to complain at least complain about something that's my fault.

I'm with you OP that it's not worth the hassle of trying to sell on ebay. I gave up after getting ripped off and messed about.

Personally I would stand your ground - if the item was true to your description the buyer doesn't have any right to a refund. Beware though, if she paid you by paypal and logs a complaint, paypal will freeze your account (and any funds in it) intil the dispute is sorted. I learnt this to my cost and now never leave any funds sitting in my paypal account.

Surely you can see what is carpet though? (please?)

Thanks for the tip, Flump - I think I've spent most of it and what's left will only be what she paid. But I'll be aware next time (not that I'm ever selling on ebay again)

if she files a dispute and there isn't paypal balance, your account will go into the red, and if the buyer is refunded paypal will pursue you for the money so withdrawing any balance from paypal won't make any difference in a dispute.

No I know - I think Flump just meant, take out anything not related to the case as if I'd had a few hundred in there or something, I'd not have been able to use any of it?

I know they pursue you if you've withdrawn it - well that's what I'd heard anyway.

I'm glad it's only 20 quid. I think I'll give up though, I can't seem to get listings right. And having someone up against you is so stressful particularly if they get narky. I just can't cope with it Sad

Yes I didn't mean that it's ok to purposely sell somebody something crappy and then withdraw the money from paypal quick sharp so they can't claim it back! Just that at one point I had a couple of hundred pounds sitting there but was not able to touch it for a month because somebody filed a complaint about a £3 pair of booties because they didn't fit their baby Hmm.

Actually fergoose I have experienced this from the other side too. I once never received an item I had paid £30 for. Paypal found in my favour, but the seller had no funds in their paypal account and didn't respond to emails - so I never got my money back. The seller closed their ebay and paypal account after that so I was stuffed. If paypal's idea of 'pursuing' claims is sending a few emails, it doesn't cut it with me. I don't use paypal anymore, btw.

Oh gosh...that's awful, Flump.

I had heard that paypal can't do an awful lot if someone does withdraw all their funds and bugger orf.

But then I thought the buyer always got their money back, even in that situation, and paypal lost out. Maybe things have changed...I've been on ebay for about 7 years now.
