Is ebay a complete waste of time and effort?

Recently started selling stuff on ebay in an attempt to make some money for Christmas.
I've been thorough in my descriptions ,provided clear photos, measurement, payment and postage details, but it seems that people want something for nothing.I've not asked anyone to " bid" on my items to boost sales, I've timed them to end at a time when they have optimum viewings and I'm left wondering what I'm doing wrong.
Are there any other selling sites people could recommend?

I used to love ebay. Sold a lot. Really can't be bothered now as I have heard so many bad stories that I'm not sure I would ever get my money.

I am a powerseller on ebay but for the last couple of years eBay has handed the complete control to buyers to play havoc with us genuine sellers .I know that generally most buyers are genuine .In the last couple years ebay has totally changed it is no more the fun and safe selling platform to be on. I would not recommend ebay to anyone now
