Can I ask for a refund or do I just have to lump it?

I've bought a pair of used wellies, item was described as hardly worn, nice and clean, nearly all the tread on them. Paid a tenner plus £5 for posting.
They arrived and on opening was happy enough with them...as described. But when trying them on they have something wrong with the sole of the left foot. It's like something has given way between the inner sole and outer sole..and everytime you take a step it makes like a popping, squelchingey type noise and it feels like a little bit gives way with every step. Very very annoying. I've tried mooching round the house in them to see if I could put up with it but it's just too irritating.
Do you think I can ask for a refund if I explain why? And if so can I ask for the whole amount, plus the postage she charged me? I'm happy to post them back to her and pay for that.
I wouldn't feel happy to re-sell myself as I don't think I could put that in the description...who on earth would buy them?!
She said they were her daughter's so maybe she was unaware but I just don't know if I would be being unreasonable to want a refund?

yes you can ask - and if they refuse you can open a case with ebay

Blooming computer...keep trying to reply and it keeps going offline.
3rd time lucky...thanks for that, I suppose I'm also after opinions as to whether it's a reasonable request or do I just have to chalk this one up?
On the face of it they are just as described but it's just the dodgy sole is so annoying!

seems alot of money to pay for something not right. if you had paid 99p then fair enough but £10 plus £5 postage you expect them to be fit for purpose. I would complain.

Thanks - I'll send a nicely worded email and see how I get on Smile

And I expect you'll find it's a lot cheaper than a fiver to return them.

Thanks! Well I've sent an email so we'll see what she comes back with.
