aargh! how can i place an automatic bid?

there is an item that i am quite interested in ending later on this evening. how can i set up the automatic bid thing so that i can (hopefully) win the item? i have only ever bought from ebay on BIN in the past and i dnt know what to do!

actually, doesnt matter - i see that although the listing is still there, the seller has said not to bother as already sold privately.
oh well .
