Returning an item....through ebay or not?

Hi,

I bought a bundle of clothes for DS and they are not the size stated. I contacted the seller and they are happy for me to return. Di I just post them back, or open a case with ebay?

And who pays postage costs?

seller should pay but you can't force them to

send recorded/with a signature so if seller doesn't co-operate you can then open a case and prove they have been returned so you can get a refund.

ok, so no need to log with ebay first?

Seems a bit off if I end up paying postage, as she sent the wrong stuff! Ebay can be annoying sometimes.

no - you don't need to log it with eBay, but you can later if the seller doesn't refund. You should ask the seller to give you the return postage costs due to their error - and of course you are entitled to all of your original payment back incl the P&P.

Depends how you paid, refund should be via same payment method

if you paid by paypal that is how they must refund, the extra postage can be sent via paypal as a gift payment to your email address.

yes, I thought cheque seemed strange, but that is what they've said!

oh well tell them they are wrong - and if they continue just open the case in eBay

what if they do send a cheque? Would I cash it? Not even sure I would know what to do with a cheque :-/

as a seller they are very silly as you could still open an eBay dispute and get a refund via the correct channel of paypal, so if they sent a cheque you could be refunded twice - this is why they should only refund via the method by which you paid.

That was my thought fergoose, as a seller I would only ever refund by PayPal. A dishonest buyer could take full advantage of a cheque refund.
