Can someone explain to me what it means if someone says they accept returns?

I have just bid on something- a bundle of four items. They all smell of smoke. Horrible. Now i didnt ask and it didnt say from a non smoking home so my fault but the seller does say they accept returns. also one item is a cropped hoodie- it is so cropped it is totally ridiculous that i cant possibly wear it. i want to return them all preferably, but definitely the silly cropped one. Am i within my rights to do this as she states she accewpts returns? She says tehre is no basis for a return so wont accept it.
Such a disappointment.
Will the smoke smell ever wash out?

don't wash anything - open a case with eBay not as described and you can return all for a refund (but you will need to pay for the return, but will get a refund of all you have paid)

If you tick the box other in the resolution centre and write in next to it 'refund' eBay may refund you without the need for the cost of a return

Then you can leave appropriate feedback and stars

I think it doesn't matter, because Buyer has the Power, anyway.

I always thought it meant (in theory) that you could do a no fault return, just because you didn't like the item, but return would be at your postage cost and you can't claim postage cost to send to you, either.

Weirdly enough I am not finding any links to confirm that, though.

But it is "As described", isn't it, Fergoose? Buyer didn't say it would be smoke free & as for crop tops, buyer beware to get the sizing right, no?

but i am not entirely sure it is fair to say the items are not as described. i would describe the cropped ness as more of a not good enough description than a wrong description. i wouldnt want to be unfair. but i dont like them (esp it) and am v disappointed.

of course am happy to take the hit on the postage.

please anyone know what i can/ should do?

this was on a buy it now item. i think that means they have to accept a return, according to this? For most Buy It Now items, business sellers are legally required to accept cancellations made within 7 working days after the date the buyer received the item.

what is a business seller though? they might just be an individual

I would say if it is smoky and too cropped to wear then they are not as described and eBay will find in your favour as a buyer. The seller can refuse but in my experience eBay normally finds in favour of a buyer - so get that case opened is my advice :)

They seem to say what I thought about meaning of "Returns Accepted"; I think that's the default tick box and I try but often fail to remember to untick it. Also, with Paypal buyer protection the buyer can just chargeback, anyway. Ebay community is very good place to get answers to your type of question.
