Offer for early end

I have been contacted through ebay with an offer way above the auction start price and a request for me to end the auction early. First can I do this, or will Ebay be aware of the conversation and have issues with it?
Second why do people do this? I can't see how it is in his favour, at all. Why not just bid on the auction and get it much cheaper than the offer. Other items the same are going for not much more than my start price..
I've had a few offers like this lately and I just don't get it..

yes you can do this, you can add a buy it now, or cancel bids and add a buy it now, or get the person to bid and end at that price

You won't get into trouble with eBay if you do this

Some people are in a rush for the item, or think they are getting a bargain

Ah great thanks very much. I think I will end the item and set up a new one with a buy it now. I don't want to be seen to be avoiding fees. Cheers

you don't need to end it and relist - if there are bids cancel them and then add a buy it now
