Leaving negative feedback

Have never left negative feedback before, even when item hasn't been as good as I was expecting it to be. Received item of clothing for dd from seller yesterday and there is a very obvious fraying of hem leading to a hole. Item was described as in excellent condition, hardly worn with no mention of fraying hem. Seller has 100% feedback. Item didn't cost much but I feel annoyed that item was definitely not as described. So do I just leave negative feedback or contact seller first?

contact seller, how can they help you if you don't Hmm?

Always contact the seller first as otherwise they can get the feedback removed. If you get nowhere with them then open a case with eBay.

Contact the seller, obviously. Only a complete muppet leaves a neg or neutral without doing this first.

definitely contact seller. agree with germy, how can seller help if you don't contact them?! most sellers are very helpful and will offer a partial refund ... I'd never leave negative without contacting them 1st to try to solve problem. Even then, I'd only leave negative in extreme circumstances... I've left positive even when I haven't been happy with something but have been happy with the refund offered. I just mention in my feedback comment, small problem but dealt with swiftly. I leave neutral if there's been a small problem and I'm not entirely satisfied with outcome. I only leave negative in extreme cases.

Agree with frazzled, I received a similar item to you, kids jeans frayed at the hem. I contacted the seller, very politely and asked her what she proposed. She refunded the full amount, it wasn't an expensive item so she said to keep it. I left positive feedback about how she swiftly and nicely dealt with a small problem.

Please contact the seller first and give them an opportunity to sort it out for you. If you do and get no response or are unhappy with the response, then you can open an item not as described case.
However please do not just leave negative feedback with no communication and without using every avenue available to you for a resolution.

With used clothing Ebay can be a bit of a minefield - one seller's "excellent" is another buyer's "fit for the bin" and occasionally a bit of negotiation and compromise is required.

I am currently sitting here seething as someone has just left a neg for me saying they didn't receive their item.
Unfortunately as I am not psychic and they didn't contact me and tell me it hadn't arrived, the neg was the first I knew.
It's very frustrating as a seller - yes I can respond to their neg but I am still stuck with it.
I'd have preferred to help them either with a replacement or a refund, but they have not given me the chance to do so Sad

Okay I have contacted the seller so shall wait and see what their response is. I wouldn't even send item to a charity shop never mind sell it on eBay!
