Seller not leaving feedback

Don't you think it is a little suspicious when sellers won't leave feedback until the buyer has? Feeling a little guilty perhaps - knowing they have sold on a load of falsely described rubbish?

The seller only needs to comment on how fast the buyer paid.

PS - had my first bad experience buying on eBay :,-(

Erm, no. I sell from time to time on eBay and I wait until the buyer has left their feedback before adding mine. I don't sell dodgy goods either.

MarjorieAntrobus · 13/09/2012 05:32

I think it's quite common for the seller to wait until the buyer has left fb. It's usually the only way the seller knows the item has arrived safely.

bigpaws · 13/09/2012 05:35

Oh, I just thought it seems odd. When I sell on eBay I automatically leave the buyer positive feedback if they pay within the requested 3 days.

Buyers I have experienced usually leave immediate feedback. Unless this particular one is waiting for my negative feedback first!

I can't see why a seller wouldn't leave instant positive feedback if the buyer had paid with no chasing?

Yes, the buyer leaving feedback is a way of telling the seller the item has arrived. But that isn't what the seller is commenting on. The seller only needs to leave feedback on payment. If its a postal issue or faulty item then that isn't relevant to feedback.

Anyone else share my opinion? Or am I naive to eBay?

Well, to my eyes, the time to leave fb is when the transaction is complete.

When I'm selling I always wait till I know the buyer has received the item and is happy with it.

SleepyFergus · 13/09/2012 06:02

I agree with Marjorie. I wait for the seller to post their fb so I know it's been received (despite sending everything I sell by recorded delivery and know that they have got it!)

I also want to be sure that the buyer is 'happy'. Ie. if I leave my FB saying 'paid quickly, great ebayer' etc and then they leave (wrongly and/or unnecessarily nasty) unfavourable feedback, then i have no opportunity to counter that and post my comments.......Or do I? I know it used to be that way, but perhaps things have changed and I am wrong!?

So I sort of see your point OP, but because I and lots of other people choose to do it that way doesn't necessarily mean we're all scammers!

BlueberryHill · 13/09/2012 09:45

I leave feedback like Marjorie and Sleepy, I like to know if the seller is happy with it too. I know that I can only leave feedback on payment I just feel happier doing it that way. If I know that it has been delivered but they haven't left any feedback after a couple of days I assume its OK and leave feedback.

I never leave selling feedback unless buyer has first left feedback. There are things other than payment to comment on: comms for instance, claiming they haven't recieved items when they've signed for them etc. when buyer leaves feedback then you know the transaction is over at their end. Also sellers can't leave negative or neutral so often they choose to leave no feedback if they aren't happy with the transaction.

In October sellers are finally being given back the right to report dodgy buyers so expect less sellers to leave feedback until buyers have left theirs.

OK, thanks folk. Suppose I'm just in a bit of a pickle with eBay at the moment.

I have had two bad transactions as a buyer. One item has arrived in a very poor condition; and another item hasn't arrived at all. Just annoys me as I wouldn't operate in this way.

Think I will take your advice though, and in future leave feedback AFTER the buyer has!

It makes no difference anyway - it's not as if you can leave a buyer a neg feedback so you have no hold over them whether you wait or not. Some people never leave any feedback - it is purely voluntary after all.

sarahtigh · 13/09/2012 16:10

no you can not leave negative but if someone claims it never arrived and you refunded you can say

"sorry it never arrived glad you got your refund"

I only leave feedback once buyer has unless a very low value item, of course you can respond to feedback but I would rather not leave feedback for problem buyers, ie those asking where is my item one day after posting when it specifically says posting second class etc, or ones I know who are making up claims of things being faulty

fortunately I have very few of these
