Postage query - odd shaped item

I am trying to work out how to package a childs dressing up outfit after selling it on Ebay. The winning bidder didn't notice it was collection only and asked if I would post it which I have agreed to look into. The problem is theres a firemans helmet which makes for a very odd shaped parcel! I was trying to avoid putting it in a box which would be more expensive to post.
It weighs about 550g and is about the size of a large football when wrapped. Can this be classed as a packet or would it be a parcel?

It sounds like it would go packet. Look into using a box as packet size goes up to 750g.

Whether it is a box or a parcel it will cost the same to post surely? It is the weight of the item which determines how much it will cost to post.
