Paypal question re. cleared funds

Fayrazzled · 10/09/2012 10:48

I wonder if someone could help me. I have bought a sewing machine on ebay this weekend, from a business. They tell me that I won't be able to collect before Thursday at the earliest, because that is when the funds will clear, but I paid by Paypal (linked to my credit card) and I thought the funds were made available to them immediately? Who is correct? I have tried looking at the help section on paypal and on the automated customer service agent thing but it doesn't understand my question. Can anyone here help? Many thanks

I've never worked out why, but sometimes Paypal pays with an e-cheque. Hate the buggers as the buyer isn't always aware that's how they paid so get arsey with me over delivery times.

When you get a cleared payment from Paypal, it shows immediately as cleared, so I can only assume it's as above.

Have you tried emailing the seller and asking?

My Paypal account shows the transaction as "completed" which seems to suggest that 1) the money has been taken from my credit card and 2) the recipient has accepted the funds. So I'm not sure what needs to clear, but accept I may not understand the process. Is there a time in which it could be reversed?

they should never pay paypal for collection - should be cash only

Fayrazzled · 10/09/2012 11:20

Why is that Fergoose? I can see why the seller shouldn't- because I could reverse the transaction after I'd collected the item, but as a buyer paypal offers me more protection and since they offered payment by Paypal I did that.

yes you could pretend you didn't receive it and claim all your money back. Protection as a buyer is irrelevant because if you filed not as described and wanted to return to sender you would have to return via trackable means before paypal refunded you, just returning it yourself would not be proof enough.

But since they have accepted Paypal, does that mean I should be able to collect today or is there a wait for cleared funds from my credit card? Many thanks for your help.

well the money is available to them immediately unless it is an echeque

I would ask for a refund then go today with cash - how ridiculous making you wait like that. Either that or ask for a refund and shop elsewhere with a decent seller!

Thanks fergoose. I will email them.
