I'm getting back into my eBaying, massive clear outs will keep me busy over this free listings weekend, wondered if anyone wanted to join me in making Christmas as cheap as possible and having the good people of eBay pay for most of it!

'Fraid I don't know about the courier thing tortoise but well done on the selling front!

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 20/11/2012 23:15

Yes - I think it's because you can't track it/prove that it has been collected and delivered.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 23:18

So as long as they give me a tracking number i should be ok? Waiting for reply on courier they plan to use.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 20/11/2012 23:19

The problem with them arranging their own courier is that you don't have proof of sending the item if they were to claim that it hadn't arrived.

I've sold another 4 fixed price items today!

My buggy was returned today and there's nothing wrong with it so there's another £15 wasted on courier/packaging Angry. I'm going to try it on Gumtree when I get back from hols.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 20/11/2012 23:20

That would make sense. Not sure if there is another reason though?

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 20/11/2012 23:20

What type of buggy is it Hic?

fergoose · 20/11/2012 23:21

if the item is damaged by the courier the buyer can open a not as described case, send it back, you are forced to refund, then you are unable to claim for the loss with the courier as you didn't have the contract with them if your buyer arranged the courier themselves.

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 20/11/2012 23:23

Ah - that is a good point. I had a claim about a damaged parcel last year (eventually came back with holes in it Hmm) so it is worth considering.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 23:23

They said they use city link because they have their own contract with the courier service. I guess as i accepted the best offer and it was in the terms (didn't see it until they said about it), i will have to chance it this time. Don't want to lose a sale! I've booked a courier many times my end because it was easier for the seller.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 23:26

Now i don't know what to do!

fergoose · 20/11/2012 23:28

I would refuse - it is your auction and your rules - if it all goes wrong you lose your item and the money.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 23:34

Thanks fergoose. I'm not sure i can as they stated it in the terms bit of best offer. I've never seen that before and just accepted the offer without looking. So basically by accepting the best offer i accepted their terms!
Will be more careful in the future!

fergoose · 20/11/2012 23:36

well - don't be bullied by the buyer, you can tell them you have been advised not to accept their courier as you lose all seller protection. Or if they want to arrange their own courier they can pay you by bank transfer or cheque, or even cash - then once cleared they can send their own courier.

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 20/11/2012 23:36

TeWi - it's a bugaboo bee.

fergoose · 20/11/2012 23:38

and also if their courier is coming you have to wait in for a day plus you still have to pack the item. It is a potential minefield.

Tortoise · 20/11/2012 23:57

I would have had to pack it and wait for courier if i'd booked it too Smile.
I'm not overly happy about it but will take the risk this time and hope it doesn't come back and bite me on the bum lol!

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 21/11/2012 08:29

Oh Damn. I love them! DH would not be impressed if I bought it though!

HiccupHaddockHorrendous · 21/11/2012 09:52

Ha, ha, I'd better not encourage you with a low price then Wink!!

MrsKwazii · 22/11/2012 10:27

How's everyone doing? I'm a bit pissed off with - firstly My Hermes - and then some of my buyers. I sent parcels off last week second class and through My Hermes and they've all arrived in the estimated timeframe that shows on the listing, but my star ratings for delivery time are coming up lower!

I'm cross with Hermes because they've taken longer to deliver than usual - within the listed timeframe though - so perhaps I just need to lower my expectations at this time of year. I had one buyer message me on Monday to ask where her stuff was (with lots of !!!!!!!) but once I explained that it would be with her by the date as listed, she was fine.

Another buyer, who is new, also marked me down and gave me positive feedback, but added in her comments that delivery was 'much later than expected'. She bought on Sunday and had it on the Friday as per my listing. Have said in my feedback that it arrived in stated timeframe and blocked her from buying from me again. Grrrrr.

waves Hi everyone, I'm rather late to this party but I have quite a few things to ebay and wondered if I could join in? Probably too late to make £300 before Christmas, but I'm aiming for £100 if I can. Going to do listings later and put some on for 3 days and some for 10 (depending on how desperate I am to get them out of the house!).

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 22/11/2012 11:48

Having another odd what sells moment. Have 2 bundles of fabric scraps one in blue colours one in reds. Blue had loads of watchers, red has none!

lljkk · 22/11/2012 14:41

You can buy a pretty king size duvet cover for a fiver in a charity shop, so I think it depends whether your scraps are more & nicer than that. I do patchwork, by the way, so ears pricked up.

dizzyday07 · 22/11/2012 16:45

I do patchwork too!

Sold a couple of the DS games that came in the bundle I bought DD plus a couple of my BIN listings. I could get used to them! Grin

I have a few watchers on what's listed with a couple of little bids too

Dingle · 22/11/2012 16:47

I listed 5 more 99p items last night, a girls christmassy coat, a sequinned suit by Miss Selfridge, girls fancy dress..... I was please that I got watchers on some items straight away and this morning the sequinned jumper has got a bid. I know it's only 99p but it's just sitting in my wardrobe never to be worn by me again!

It inspired me to sort some more today and I have hand washed a glitzy suit by Jane Norman, and a couple of slinky dresses by Wallis....together with a few more kiddies dressing up costumes......and photographed another load of kiddies clothes, shoes etc.

Will try to load more tonight.

THANK YOU for this thread, it has really motivated me into de-cluttering and hopefully accumulating a bit of money in my Paypal too!

Good luck everyone, keep it going! xxx

TeWiDoesTheHulaInHawaii · 22/11/2012 17:29

Grin patchworkers: popular fabric not popular the 2nd bundle weighs 2/3 times as much as the first as well - do you think I should have put the total weight on?

I used to do a bit of patchwork but I don't have a sewing machine, and I haven't really got the time to make entire quilts by hand anymore!
