How do I know when something was sent?

Hi
I bought something ten days ago and the postage was by parcelforce 48 hr service.
Heard nothing from seller after a week so just emailed to ask when was likely to be sent so I I could try and be in. No response. Usually I get an email from eBay when something I've bought is sent - an update for your purchase one. But nothing. Anyway I noticed on thursday evening that the status in my account had changed to dispatched although I'd had nothing from eBay so I'm not sure when they posted the item or why I didn't get an email from eBay.
Also if it was sent on Thursday or before presumably then surely it should have come by now?
Is there any way I can see when the seller marked it as dispatched? Im sure there used to be a way!

Thanks.

if the seller marks it as dispatched you will normally get an email plus the envelope next the item in eBay will be yellow. Hover over the envelope and it should tell you the date of dispatch. Why don't you ask them for a tracking number, or pull their details and call them?

If it was sent Parcelforce 48 on Thurs then it would arrive Tues after the bank holiday I guess?

If you go into your purchase history on the "my ebay" tab, and hover your cursor over the envelope symbol, it should show a date when the item was marked as dispatched.

If the seller has sent it via Parcelforce they should have a tracking number and this ought to have been included in the dispatch details. You would then have received a notification form Ebay with the tracking information.

Personally I'd be a bit suspicious that the seller hadn't replied to a message by this stage.
After 10 days of waiting for a 48hr delivery I would be opening an item not received case. The seller would need to respond to the case with tracking details to prove it had been sent.
In their position I'd be bending over backwards to trace the item if I'd sent it and I certainly wouldn't be ignoring a buyer's query.

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 25/08/2012 21:13

The seller has not responded to any emails.
I think if it doesn't come Tuesday I will have to open a case, it cost £60 so I can't afford to write if off.
I wasn't sure if parcelforce delivered on Saturdays or not. I am looking at it on my iPad so maybe that is why I can't see the date it was sent. Not sure why I didn't get the email from eBay though.

I am fairly sure Parcelforce do offer a Saturday delivery service, but at a far higher cost.
Standard 48hr delivery is probably Mon-Fri working days only.
As fergoose says if it was sent out on Thursday then you should expect it on Tuesday.

Did the seller have any terms on their listing regarding their dispatch window? I know that some sellers do only post once a week, so that may explain some of the delay.

Having said that though, if someone ordered an item from me on 2 day delivery I would get that item out to arrive within 48 hours. I would not wait over a week and then send it out.

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 25/08/2012 21:45

It says they usually post within three days of payment. I paid immediately. I understand that sometimes life gets in the way and sellers don't always have chance to send within their usual time frame but if it were me I would email the buyer to tell them.
I am slightly concerned that I have heard nothing but they have good feedback so fingers crossed. They replied to my query about the item immediately before i bought it but nothing since then (it was buy it now).

if posted thrusday may depend on time if after last collection in area it counts as friday here our collection is 4pm so if after 4 it counts as friday, saturday is not counted as working day by opost office although they deliver monday is BH in england so 2 working days is tuesday if posted before last post wednesday if posted later
i would open dispute tuesday eveining after you are sure it is too late to arrive tuesday as parcelforce often comes upto 6pm

80sbabe · 25/08/2012 21:52

Well you are a very patient buyer is all I can say and you've waited longer than most would before questioning delivery.
If you don't receive it on Tuesday I really would recommend opening a dispute and see what transpires.
Good luck and please do update us won't you ?

fergoose · 25/08/2012 21:59

I agree very patient, I would prob have opened a dispute by now if I were you!

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 25/08/2012 22:03

Thanks, I will do.
Have just checked on laptop and dispatch was 23rd so may well come on Tuesday depending what time they sent it. No tracking number though. I was more concerned by the lack of response I must admit, if it were me I would contact my buyer if I was going to post outside my usual time frames and I would respond to their queries. I suppose you never know what's happening in someone's life though, they could be ill or a relative could be unwell or car could have broken down or anything. Or they might just be a rubbish seller of course! I will give them the benefit of the doubt until Tuesday, then try and contact them again for a tracking number and if no response will open a case on Wednesday.

You are quite right, sometimes unexpected events do happen in life and Ebay purchases get delayed.
A couple of years ago I was taken ill and had to have an emergency C section two months early. However a friend did post out for me the next day and sent messages explaining and apologising to all my buyers.
I only got one neg for not dispatching within the stated 24 hours so most people were fine.
If you spend any length of time on Ebay you eventually hear every excuse in the book for not paying or posting, so most of us are quite cynical I reckon.

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 25/08/2012 22:29

I know, I am quite cynical too really. I'm trying to be kind. I've had a few people (buyers mainly) with questionable sob stories and it does annoy me. Why bid if you don't intend to buy?!

Did you really get a neg for not sending within 24 hours? That is mad!

Although I am a teeny bit irritated and wil mark them down on postage time if the item actually arrives!

OP posts:
80sbabe · 25/08/2012 22:38

Yep I did get a neg for it.
I do have a 1 working day dispatch policy (most of my items go the same day though) and on that occasion I really could not keep to it.
For some reason my consultant wouldn't let me out to go to the post office Shock
There are buyers out there who have no mercy and will hold sellers to every last detail of a listing.
They had probably heard it all before though, and even though my reason was valid there was nothing I could do as I was late with dispatch.

Onlyhappywhenitrains · 25/08/2012 22:40

How unreasonable of your consultant! Wink

Have now noticed that it is showing as not sent in PayPal account. I contacted seller this morning to ask for tracking number as will wait in tomorrow if it is coming then but no response do far.

I think if no word tomorrow and no item I will open a case. Strangely I've had a bad feeling about this since buying it and nearly didn't buy it because of this but convinced myself I was being silly!
