Have bought an expensive item on ebay, paid through Paypal and arranged to collect on Saturday. However not sure that I want it now, where should I go from here?
Contact seller be honest and ask for a refund, no doubt annoying selller, presumably doesn't have to refund?
Go through purchase and resell if not happy with associated hassle?

I think you should do b - you decided to bid on the item and so need to carry out your side of the contract.

I would ask for a refund from the seller - they would be very silly taking paypal for a collection item anyway - they should have refunded you immediately and asked for cash. They can then mutually agree to cancel the transaction to get their fees back.

You should warn them never to take paypal for collection items as they are leaving themselves wide open to being scammed in future.

Yes, I thought it was unusual asking for paypal and I checked with them. Why would they be wide open for scams?

because a buyer can pay by paypal collect the item then claim to not receive it - and paypal will refund in full as the seller has no proof of delivery.

Oh I see! I thought cash on collection made sense for collecting items as the buyer could have a quick look before handing over the cash. Well goose you have given me an ideas now Wink.
I will probably go through with the sale and resell if not happy with the item. TBH really just hoping that they give us the opt out for some reason.

have you asked the seller to refund and cancel the sale?
