Can anyone help me, it's too late to revise listing but want to add collection as an option?

Hi
My listing (for some heavy toys) is ending soon and has several bids. Several buyers have contacted me asking if they could collect if they win but I foolishly didn't add this as an option. I said yes thinking I could revise the listing but I can't. If the winning buyer is one of those who would like to collect what do I do? Is the best option to get them to pay by Paypal and then refund and ask for cash on collection? Do I have to pay Paypal fees if I refund? Should I revise the invoice to reduce postage to nothing before I get them to pay by Paypal? Thanks in advance for your help!

If they are collecting just log into paypal and click on the payment and scroll down and hit refund - the fees will automatically be cancelled then too.

You should only take cash for collection, so just get them to pay the item price only and not any postage. So if the winning buyer is collecting tell them not to pay by paypal and ask for cash when they come to collect.

Thanks fergoose, still a bit confused, so they don't need to pay by Paypal at all then? I thought I had to get them to pay by Paypal since that was my only payment method listed then refund them otherwise how does it show we have completed the transaction, it will still look on ebay as if I am waiting for payment?

no - you must never take paypal for a collection item - if they do pay that way they can take your item, claim not received and then get their money back too. Always cash only for collection.

You just mark the item as pymt received in eBay - nothing else needs to be done. If they pay by paypal then you refund it takes days for them to get the money back, and it won't show as paid anymore after it has been refunded so it kind of defeats the object of them paying anyway.

OK thanks fergoose. Yes I have heard of the scam where people pay by Paypal then collect the item and file a claim which succeeds because there is no proof they collected so I have told all the buyers that they have to pay by cash if they collect. I just thought it had to be by Paypal because that's the only payment method I have listed.

So I just tell them to ignore the email asking them to pay by Paypal and pay by cash when they collect and then mark as payment received under actions? That seems so easy! If you can change the payment method afterwards I don't know why you're not allowed to revise the listing to add additional payment methods?

You can't revise a listing if there are bids or if there is less than 12 hours to run on the auction.

And yes, ignore the pay now email and just bring cash if your buyers are collecting.

Thanks fergoose. I knew that less than 12 hours to run you can't make many changes but thought that I could add payment methods more than 12 hours before listing ends even with bids, didn't read the information properly! Tried to revise it last night as it ends this evening and got in a panic about what to do. As a matter of interest what happens if there is a dispute about the condition of goods etc if the buyer collects and pays by cash as there is no proof that the transaction occurred? If I mark payment received could they then claim they didn't receive the item?

well they could claim not received but eBay can't give them any money back when they have paid in cash.

Thanks again for your advice fergoose the buyer has just paid in cash and collected and I have marked as payment received. So much easier than I expected, saves me the hassle of organising a courier and the Paypal fees, will definitely add this option next time!
