Hi, I'm trying to sell my car and thought I'd give eBay a go after a poor response on autotrader (loads of scammers and not much else). I'm not sure whether to do a classified ad or an auction/ buy it now. It's a Renault Clio worth about £3500. Anyone have any experience or advice?

I have no experience but would like to read others' responses as I am in a similar position. I'm wondering whether to part-ex my scenic so that I don't have the hassle of selling it myself or risk having no car/2 cars!

Expect scammers and exporters a plenty. I sell quite a few motors and its got really bad. I usually do a classified ad with best offer but don't accept the offer through eBay as the listing will end and you could have to relist. Contact the buyer and ask them to call you. On a classified ad you aren't breaking eBay rules by doing this and it stays up for a month for only a fiver more than an auction. Don't accept bids from people with only a few transactions. Put on the listing no overseas bidders. This sounds awful but beware of strong foreign accents they usually belong to exporters who will agree a price then turn up looking to find fault and knock you down on price. I was thinking of changing to auto trader but it sounds just as bad from you post :(. People say try Gumtree but I've never had any joy with it.

Hi, just to update; I put the car on eBay as an auction with a reserve, got loads more interest than when it was on auto trader and sold it after 3 days to someone who came to view it, cancelling the auction. Was cheaper than auto trader too,, would definitely use again.

That's good! I'm about to put a for sale poster up in mine then it'll go on eBay.

definitely ebay auction but if someone comes to view with good cash offer take it and end auction either put reserve or start at the absolute least you would take for it , number of watchers means virtually nothing as most are watching to check prices, so do not let 30 or 40 watchers put you off accepting decent cash offer

never ever ever PAYPAL' just cash or bank transfer in bank ( not the type that can be cancelled and check it is in your bank account)
