Bought a bnwot size 16 dress, a worn 14 lands on door step?

I'm looking for a touch of advice :)

I bid on a dress that I liked the look of and won, all good so far. When I come to pay it won't accept it :S. then I see cash, cheque or postal order only. I've only ever paid by PayPal before so the seller explained how to send a postal order. The dress cost 3.00 and postage 3.20. Then I find I need to pay a extra 1.65 for postal order, stamp and envelope. I was a bit cheesed of with that as she didn't explain that and I usually work out what u want to pay with postage included. so in this case I had bid 3.30 making upto 6.50 I didn't want to pay any more then that. I also had to pay for bus into town and back as I don't drive but that's not her fault but more cost that would have been avoided if she took PayPal.

I messaged the lady saying she had maybe had two of the dresses and made a mistake in sending me the wrong one. She says no sorry but to return it and she will refund me 3.20! So ontop of the 7.85 (11.15 inc bus fair) I'd already spent I then have to get another bus to post office to send it back which is another 3.30 on bus and 3.20 (=17.75) 2nd class or if your suppose to send it back recorded even more. I'm guessing as she doesn't have PayPal she will then send another postal order back so even more faffing.

I emailed back saying I wasn't happy with this as I was left massively out of pocket for her mistake. It is definately 14 there's two tags that say so and definately worn. She has emailed back saying she would refund the price I paid so 6.20 for dress and postage.

Im still not happy with this, I don't expect her to refund my bus fair etc as its not her fault but I do ethnic she should pay return postage at least as its her fault it needs returning. I haven't replied yet but what's best to do?

Is there a chance even if she says she will refund it all I will send the dress then never hear from her again as payment wasn't through PayPal? Could eBay help in anyway?

Thanks for any help :)

i would open a dispute on ebay to start with, that way you can def get your money back

unfortunaltey they don't actually have to refund the return postage, and you woul really need to send it signed for, so that you have proof that she has received it.
otherwise if she gets it and claims it hasn't been delivered you have no comeback and won't get a refund.

I am not sure that an Ebay dispute would get you very far if you didn't pay by Paypal.
Can I ask why your Paypal payment wasn't accepted ? Was it that you had reached your limits and needed to verify your account ?
As far as I know the buyer protection is only valid if Paypal was used and that with an item paid any other way you will be at the mercy of the seller whether or not you can prove the item was returned.
Sellers do not have to refund return postage but good sellers generally will.

I'm not sure why but it's something with her pay pal not mine. All her items say in the description cash, cheque or postal order but I bid in the last couple of mins on my phone and just looked at item specifics and the picture. I've just looked at her feedback and she has a neg saying transaction cancelled described bnwt but has been worn and one saying about not accepting paypal. I just presume everyone accepts paypal as I seem to remember somewhere from selling things it says you have to

So without the buyer protection I could send it back recorded but she may still not refund me?

I thought all sellers had to accept Paypal?

I would phone eBay in this instance. It's all been a bit of a ball ache for you really. They will decide what to do when you explain, they sometimes ask you what you'd like to put things right then just refund you accordingly (from the seller's account) She should have a working PP account too do
That's a ball in your court.

ebay will help regardless of how you initially paid, and it will force a refund as far as I am aware as long as you have proof that the item has been received by the seller

fergoose · 14/07/2012 09:01

I think you need to report her for the paypal thing - she is wrong writing that in the description. You have no comeback or protection paying with a postal order.

Toddle · 14/07/2012 09:39

I think she did previously accept PayPal as ive checked a few of her feedback and half way through feedback as a seller it then says no PayPal so Maybe her account needs validating or what ever.

How do I find the number for eBay as I've never had to phone them

Click Customer Support, I think they are selective abut who they give their number out to, though not too sure, they give you a pin number. Live Chat is really helpful too if you explain, they've just helped me with something. tell them everthing and especially about Paypal, you have to have that working to sell.

80sbabe · 14/07/2012 10:09

Sorry I misunderstood your op about Paypal, I thought it was your end that hadn't worked.
All sellers on Ebay have to offer Paypal as a payment method - it's a basic requirement and to do so they must have a valid Paypal account.
This seller is in breach of Ebay selling regs and you need to report them.

As you have paid via a postal order which is out of Ebay's control they will not be able to force through a refund from the seller, however they may refund you themselves as a goodwill gesture.

On Ebay customer support do not put in what your problem is about - just click the technical help section and then the call us link. You will get a number and a passcode to enter.
