I want to buy something costing £85 from a buy-it-now business and I want it ASAP. However I don't have that much in my paypal balance (only about £20).

I've never sent money via paypal from my linked debit card as payment for goods/services and I can't work out the fee business? (Assuming I don't tick to say it's personal, which I wouldn't). It seems to say the business wuld get charged "1.4% to 3.4% + £0.20 GBP*". Is this right and if so do I then have to calculate what it'll cost in a fee for the seller and then add it onto what I send? Or what? This sort of % added onto £85 doesn't put me off as I want the item ASAP and don't want to have to wait a week for cleared funds to be in my paypal account.

Help much appreciated.

Is this on Ebay?

If so, just buy it and pay whatever the total it asks for is. Paypal will withdraw whatever extra they need from your bank.

Any fees are the sellers responsibility not yours, they will have factored them into the price already.

Really? What's the point of the balance in my account then? I thought you had to have money actually IN your paypal account in order to use/"spend" it? So in theory I could have a balance on zero in my account and just pay whatever the total is from (yes) ebay and it would take it off my linked debit card

Yep Smile

You don't need money in a PP account to use it - they will pay the seller instantly and then withdraw it from your bank/card.

I've just bought the item but when I 'm trying to pay via paypal it's only giving me the option of an echeque (supported by my linked card) which it says will take 5-7 working days to clear and the seller is advised not to send goods until it's cleared.

Is there anything I can do to get them immediately so they can dispatch? Maybe I only have a basic paypal and others have some sort of upgraded version or something.

add a credit card to paypal and verify your bank account - then you can pay the seller instantly.

Get them PAID immediately I m,ean?

I would phone and see if I could pay over the phone but they don't have a phone number.

Ahh well, I guess I'll go with the echeque and rememeber that patientce is a virtue.

Thank you for your help.

fergoose, I don't have a credit in regular use. Only stashed away in the cupboard, I never use it, don't know the pin etc. Though thanks for the idea.
