I'm sure this has been done before, so please feel free to report and have it tagged on the end of another thread.......

I have been an active seller since January this year and have had some good success with my sales. I don't mind sharing my success with you in the hope that I may be able to pass on some tips that work for you too.....

Please feel free to add your tips in here too, lets all declutter our homes together!

My first tip is to make sure your listing finishes at a busy time. I've found evenings and weekends are best as there are more buyers around then to throw in those last minute bids! It might sound really obvious, but you wouldn't believe how many people put their listings on in the middle of the night, so they then also end in the middle of the night...... how else did I manage to get £900 M&P Travel System for £51?? :o

  • Make sure you put up a good, clear picture.
  • Write a good description. The more you put, the more you will sell the item for.
  • Layout your description in an easy to read format. Don't just type lots of sentences together. Use short paragraphs and bullet points.
  • If you are selling baby/children's clothes make up into an outfit, such as adding a pair of tights to go with a dress.
  • Put your item in the correct category.
  • Check your spelling. If an item is spelt incorrectly it will not show up on searches.
  • Have a returns/refund policy. I always put something like - I do not have a specific returns/refund policy but if you are unhappy with your item in anyway, please contact me so we can resolve any issue.
  • Ship items as quickly as you can after payment is received. You will get good feedback which will give potential bidders more confidence in purchasing from you.
  • Be honest as to the quality of the item for the reasons above.

do not offer first class post unless you can post the day they pay or at least within 24-48 hours absolute max

if you can only post fridays do not have items ending on sunday and expect people to be happy with 5 day dispatch time even if you say its 5 days, end listings on wednesday instead

do not try and make up profit from excessive postage because you start everything at 99p

some will disagree but most buyers resent paying extra 95p for tracked on low value items, it is not for their benefit, even a nice t shirt at 99p becomes very expensive if you charge £3+ postage

don't start items at 99p unless prepared to sell for that
