Sellers fees

I'm a complete eBay newbie, have just sold my very first item. But the sellers fee eBay have requested is more than the item sold for? Does that happen? Seems odd as I'd be better off not selling the item.

the final value fee should only be about 10% of what the item sold for

listing fees can rack up if you added extra pictures or features to your listing

Thanks, I did put 2 photos in, maybe that was it? Oh well hopefully I'll start making money on my other items soon

how much did it sell for and did you add a subtitle - it seems odd that the fees would be more than the item?

Only 99p! And £5.00 postage (which actually cost me £5.50!) and sellers fee of £1.20. So I lost 70p. Not the end of the world but frustrating when I'm trying to make some extra money and the time involved.

ebay fees 10% of 99p = 10p
paypal fees 3.4% plus 20p of £5.99 = £0.40
photos 12 p each (first one free) = 12p

so to my mind your fees are 62p

99-66 = 33p profit , you lost 50p on postage so overall should be -17p

Thanks, I emailed eBay and it's the fees for the four things I had listed, not just the one I had sold like I thought
