Urgent help re international postage

Have just sold an item. Buyer contacted me after the auction ended asking for costs to send to Germany! What do I do now? I hadn't specified that I wouldn't send overseas, but only quoted a price for 2nd class recorded delivery. Pretty new to this, but assumed he should have enquired about overseas postage prior to the end of the auction? Thanks for any help/advice offered.

You can find out the cost of shipping on Royal Mail's website. AirSure is a trackable option.

You can them amend your ebay invoice to show the amount of postage you will be charging and resend it to him.

As you hadn't specified no overseas buyers then they have bought in good faith.
Germany is a very safe and reliable country to post to and unless you are very unlucky you shouldn't have any issues. Providing you choose the correct service though, should an item not arrive you will be compensated anyway just as with UK post.

If you package the item up and weigh it you can get a quote from RoyalMail online. You'll find various options including Airmail, International Signed For and Airsure.
Once you have a quote then send your buyer an invoice for the total amount including revised postage.

Unless the item is worth more than £46 you would be covered for loss or damage with the Airmail service, anything over that you would need to use one of the enhanced services.

I post abroad very frequently and have fewer missing post issues than I do with UK inland.
