Why are the Channel Isles not UK?

I feel very ignorant here, but I thought the Channel Islands were part of the UK. I was contacted by someone who wanted to bid on an item I am selling but can't as I have said no international postage. She siad that blocks her from bidding.

Can anyone shed any light on this?

She asked if I could change listing to worldwide shipping but I don't want to- because that would open it to international postage anywhere- as it's such a fag having to go and get items weighed etc before the buyer can pay for postage etc etc.

From Wikipedia they are Crown Dependencies. Seems as they are independently administered they are not part of the United Kingdom. Not sure how you can get around this person being able to bid.

The Channel Islands are part of the UK and cost of postage via Royal Mail is the same, as are target delivery times.

But they are not part of EU, so unlike other UK destinations, you have to fill in a customs declaration form for anything other than letters.

I suppose that difference may be what underlies the classification as international.

I think you can change it to include the channel islands in ebay settings (i.e. you don't have to change it to worldwide - you should just be able to deselect the box saying channel islands). I think.

I really don't get this- looked at all the settings and the Channel Isles are included unless you opt out- along with Scottish Isles.

The only other option for me was to tick EU and Europe and don't want to do that.

I assume the potential bidder knows what she is on about?
