I sold a plate rack on Wednesday and I've still not had any communication from the buyer whatsoever. I sent the invoice straight away with my mobile asking him to get in touch re collection but there's been nothing at all. How do I word a polite message, reminding him that he won and really we could have done with the money 2 days ago that he needs to cough up?

I don't bother to be honest - just open a non paying bidder dispute and let eBay remind them, and if they don't pay close it in 4 days and get your final fees back then you can relist or do second chance offer.

doradoo · 04/06/2012 12:27

Or you could just say:

Further to my email of XX, if I have not received payment by XX I will have no other option to file a dispute with Ebay and relist my item.

Ok - thanks, I'm just gutted. Such a shame. Why oh why do people do this. Is it fairly straightforward to open a non paying bidder dispute? As in fairly idiot proof?

yes from my eBay go to Account then Resolution centre and take it from there.

I have sent reminder emails once or twice, I don't sell lots but when I've had to do this it was worded something like

"Hello, I have not yet received payment for the XYZ and am wondering if there is a problem? If you still want the item, can you please send payment asap, and I'll get it posted off to you."

I received very apologetic replies and immediate payment. Sometimes it's too easy to assume everyone's dishonest. Obviously if you don't get a reply / payment, go down the dispute route. I've never had to do it so no idea what it's like.

So I've sent the following, thanks for your help....
Hi there, further to my invoice dated the 30th May, just wanted to send you a reminder that you have bid on and won our plate rack. If I've not heard from you by the 6th I'll have to open a non paying dispute as I'll have to presume you are no longer wishing to go ahead with the purchase, and so I can then get my fees refunded and relist.
As I put on the invoice, my mobile is ........ if you still want to call to arrange collection.
Kind regards
K

OP posts:
fergoose · 04/06/2012 20:30

right - I've sent him the following as I don't want him to think I'm being a pain in the bum...
Hi there, thanks so much for arranging the paypal payment and I really don't want to be a pain, but I thought I'd stated fairly clearly that we wanted cash only on collection for this. Was there a particular reason you don't want to pay cash? And if not, would you mind if I refunded you the paypal amount, and then you could bring cash with you when you collect? I'll wait to hear from you before I go ahead with the refund.
Kind regards
K
Do you think that sounds reasonable? All I wanted was a phone call to arrange collection..... waaaaaahhhhhhh

OP posts:
fergoose · 04/06/2012 20:41

No because you are still giving the option to pay by paypal - you need to tell them you have refunded their payment and you would like cash on collection please - don't need to ask their permission do you.

bobkate · 04/06/2012 20:50

oh dear - I've still got a lot to learn haven't I!!! Bum.

DonkeyTeapot · 04/06/2012 22:07

I'm not completely sure about this, but isn't there a rule that if they are collecting, they MUST pay cash?

fergoose · 04/06/2012 22:26

no there isn't a rule that they must pay cash, but you would be daft to accept paypal for collection item as you are open to the risk of chargebacks, even though eBay would never advise you that.

Thanks for your help Smile

You can obtain their phone number from ebay in the 'Advanced' search. Just asking for this normally does the trick for me because eBay automatically sends the seller an advice to say that you've requested their contact details. Most people don't seem to like the thought of someone ringing them to ask for payment!!
