Do you ever chase for feedback?

I only recently started selling on Ebay, so not sure of etiquette. I have had no feedback for all of the items that I posted about 3 weeks ago. I still have the proof of postage receipts but don't know how long I should hold on to them for. Is it bad form to email the buyers and just ask them if they receievd the items?

Totally. In the most polite way, but I do. eg Leave me 5 stars or else ! "If you liked me as a seller, and wouldn't mind, could you please leave me positive feedback" - something like that. Or "please do leave me positive feedback if you were happy with your purchasing experience".

fergoose · 02/06/2012 21:07

Nope never or you risk receiving feedback and stars that you don't want. Feedback is voluntary and asking for it can really rile people. Lots of people never bother leaving any.

bigjoeent · 03/06/2012 23:13

I hate it when people don't leave feedback, most have done so and some do leave it a lot later after the sale. I wouldn't ask for it, it is voluntary.

hellymelociraptor · 03/06/2012 23:20

I take a while sometimes to leave feedback, and then tend to do it in one lump. However I hate being chased for feedback, it seems rude somehow, and I don't leave feedback if I haven't been all that happy with something. I am loth to leave negative feedback so tend to give the benefit of the doubt and not leave any.

DanceToTheIslandBeat · 04/06/2012 10:14

Thanks for thoughts. It's not the feedback I'm after really - just acknowledgement of receipt. It makes me feel slightly nervous that they could get in touch to say it wasn't received at some point.

I won't chase though.

Leave feedback only when it has been left for You :)

busybean · 04/06/2012 10:22

No never chase, quite rude I feel. As a seller I always leave feedback as soon as Ive posted the item, as a buyer once Ive received my item, but I often wait till Ive got a quite a few feedbacks to leave before I leave them iyswim.

If you must chase Id advise just emailing to enquire wether the item arrived and leave it at that, if they are happy they will leave feedback in their own time.

Meglet · 04/06/2012 10:34

No. If someone is rude enough to not leave feedback then I wouldn't want to wind them up by asking.

fergoose · 04/06/2012 11:07

If you are worried about items not arriving you need to send them recorded delivery to be honest

Tryharder · 06/06/2012 09:47

I never ask for feedback- as Fergoose said, you might get one you didn't want!

It's not compulsory, after all and lots of ebayers take weeks/months to leave feedback- nothing personal at all.

oh my goodness-I always chase for feedback. Didn't know it was deemed rude!
Anyway, I recently sold an item and chased the buyer for feedback. Buyer then responds saying " did you actually send it as I haven't received it"
Arrgh. I am going to have to refund I suppose. Unless anyone has a bright idea? I thought I had proof of postage but have chucked it out

GobblersKnob · 06/06/2012 19:24

Never chase for feedback, all chasers get none from me, it's annoying.

I do normally leave fb though, not always, sometimes I forget. The very good and the very bad will always get some thoughWink.

raindropsinmyhair · 06/06/2012 19:31

I was chased for feedback once and thought it was really rude (they didn't ask in a polite way)

I wouldn't mind a seller checking I had received the item ok though.

KenNEddieKennedy · 06/06/2012 19:31

I don't leave feedback. I'm not rude, it's just another place to buy stuff that I might need - Just any other shop.

ishopthereforeiam · 08/06/2012 02:59

I used to send a message post transaction saying please do leave feedback when I was a relatively new seller but I don't bother now as don't want to wind people up by chasing and also some people will randomly leave feedback weeks or months after!

rookanga · 08/06/2012 04:22

If you didn't send the items recorded delivery then reminding people of that could be inviting trouble.
I tend to not leave feedback if I'm a bit unhappy with what I have bought, but not unhappy enough to get into a dialogue with the seller. An email asking for feedback in that situation doesnt tend to make things better...

BlameItOnTheBogey · 08/06/2012 04:26

I hate being chased for feedback. It's not rude not to leave it. It's voluntary. The compulsory parts of the transaction are: buyer pays, seller send item. That's it.
