i placed a bid on an item listed as a console table, there were measurements that didnt tally up but stupid me thought seller had made a mistake as its listed as a console table and they are roughly the same height-i intended to use as desk for daughter.
turns out its actually a coffee table ,which i dont need/want.
so even though the measurement on the listing is right-the item description isnt- she meant to put coffee table so do i have to go through with purchase?

no you don't have to - but I would email the seller now and ask them to cancel the sale so they can get their final fees back. They will send a cancellation request which you will agree to.

If not they may open a non paying bidder case against you and you will get a strike on your account.

thanks
just messaged her now, asking for that or ebay said i can pay by paypal and open a not as described case against her- really dont want to get nasty as i feel we,re both to blame- i just dont want a coffee table.

what - eBay told you to pay for the item, receive it and then open a not as described case? Seriously?! Erm, definitely do not pay and then do that - not only are you mucking the seller around, you will have to pay to send it back and you and the seller will lose out. I am quite speechless that they told you that!

yep- they said if seller doesnt cancel transaction-i can open a not as described case-once ive paid for it???
i havnt paid as its local pick up-so im confused at that ,so do i really pay -take it home -open a case as not described -then the likely hood will be i have to take it back for a refund.
what proof will i have that its been returned to claim a refund?and if i pay cash theres no chance i will get a refund as paypal wont get involved.
im very confused.

no do not do that - if you pay by paypal and collect it then want a refund you have to send it back by trackable means, ie courier so more expense and hassle

Pick up should be cash only - never paypal.

Just do nothing now - and if seller sends a cancellation just accept it, and then that is it. Definitely do not pay them.

ive just rang ebay and thankfully spoke to someone who made more sense.
he said that my bid is legally binding and i must pay if seller doesnt want to cancel transaction-as ive got 100 % feedback they might give me a negative and its not worth it.
so anyone want a coffee table?
thanks fergoose.

excuse me? Wrong again! A seller cannot leave you a neg. this is getting ridiculous, twice they have given you wrong info.

Do not pay - end of. If seller doesn't cancel the transaction then they won't get their fees back. I am fuming that they are giving you the wrong info again!

maybe they mean she will get negative ie nonpayment strike from ebay

seller maybe out all day if more than 1 biider there will be an underbidder paying just £1 less , most sellers will agree to cancellation as a not as described case will cost you both money and if you sent email admitting you bid in a hurry you might lose case unlikeyl as ebay generally side with buyer

almost certainly seller will agree to cancel just be patient not everyone checks ebayer account every few hours

surely seller will get fees back if they opens non payment case
