I sold something on eBay last night. The buyer won by bidding £801, just beating previous bidder who had bid upto £800. Now I know it's a lot of money but surely you shouldn't bid if you can't afford it?!
Do I have a leg to stand on with this or do I take the fees on the chin and relist, praying to god it gets the same interest it got last time?

Forgot to add that buyer just messaged to say they can't pay. They have over 200 positive feedbacks too. Angry

offer the other buyer a second chance offer? assuming you mean the original buyer can't/won't pay

thisisyesterday · 29/04/2012 15:14

sorry, has the buyer said he doesn't want it now?

i think if you mutually cancel the transaction you get your fees back
or you can offer a second chance offer to your next highest bidder

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 15:35

Thanks! I forgot about second chance offers, the possibility doesn't show on the phone app. Fingers crossed they want to buy it! It's a PITA as we needed that money to (help) pay off an extortionate and unexpected electricity bill! I hate eBay sometimes.

You should do a non paying bidder case against them first, once that is done you can then do second chance offer or relist

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 15:43

Oh bum. Have already done the second chance offer. Am I too late for the non-paying bidder thing?

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/04/2012 15:45

no - but if they pay you could potentially have 2 buyers and 1 item.

fergoose · 29/04/2012 15:46

And you obviously need to get your fees back - I guess they will be £80 plus you need to give non payer a strike.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 15:49

Oh god! It's such a minefield! I was so happy when they sold! Thank you for advice!

And an item that value paypal will cost a fortune. And if it is collection you must only accept cash.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 16:00

How much would paypal cost? I couldn't find anywhere that gave a price!

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/04/2012 16:01

£27.40 paypal fees - so after that and eBay fees you will have less than £700 in your hand.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 16:07

Thanks, that is kind of what I expected. I didn't know where else to sell the item though so guessed eBay to be best!

If you are sending it to the buyer make sure it is adequately insured too - courier could be costly to insure for that value.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 16:21

Was going to send it royal mail next day with insurance. If I ever bloody sell it now! I can't open an non-payment case until Tuesday apparently. Do you know if I'll get charged double fees if the second chance buyer buys it?

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/04/2012 16:32

Yes you will get charged fees twice if the 2nd buyer buys it.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 17:39

I phoned the buyer and said I was going to cancel the transaction as its easier all round and he agreed to accept. Then I get a message saying that he has declined as he wants a few more days to pay! For fucks sake! Why didn't he just say on the phone?!
Have messaged him to say a few more days is fine but obviously I've already sent a second chance offer now! Grr!

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/04/2012 18:34

and now you can't do a non paying bidder case to get your fees back

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 19:58

Can't I?

OP posts:
fergoose · 29/04/2012 19:59

Not as far as I know - you could try eBay live help for advice but I don't think you will get your fees back now. Hope I am wrong though.

Moodykat · 29/04/2012 20:01

Oh what a fucking joke. That's gutting. I'm so angry with this man!

OP posts:
Moodykat · 29/04/2012 20:04

Must admit I am crying a bit. Fucking live help told me to do it like that.

fergoose · 29/04/2012 20:06
