postage and paypal

Sorry if this has been asked but I cannot trawl through every thread to see if it has. Can I just post item and not print a postage label via paypal? I did this before and I am sure it worked out more expensive.

yes of course, you just write the address on with a pen!

I thought you had to use the paypal postage system that I was directed to the first time I sold on there earlier this year which I think cost far more than it actually cost to post on own.
