Bought item on easter sunday, its a gift for someone else.
Noticed on monday that money had not been claimed, looked in paypal and their email address was invalid.

Spoke to ebay on wednesday saying i had tried to contact seller 3 times but no response, they sent me contact details but guess what? Phone number also incorrect.

Eventually seller contacted me to say they had put wrong email address in paypal, they sent me the right one and asked me to make payment. They have not changed it in ebay or paypal but want me to make a payment direct, which paypal advise against as checkout should be done through ebay.

Am so tired of going back and forth. Does it sound suspicious? I could be bidding on another item, wish there was a way i could cancel transaction with seller

can you not go into paypal and cancel the 'wrong' payment and then just find another seller

you can also report for false contact details with eBay

And no, do not make payment direct - you would lose your buyer protection

Have attempted payment twice and have cancelled both transactions now.
Ebay are aware of the situation but dont seem too bothered.
Another same item ends today, i woukd love to get out of current situation with seller

well just ignore then - you tried to pay and the seller has their account set up wrong

Just delete from your won items and buy elsewhere is my advice.

This happened to me once by mistake, I typed my email address in and accidentally missed a letter so payment could not be made when the auction finished. It is very frustrating from the this end too! I sent a link to the person for a new BIN auction for the same product with very little detail (so no one else would buy it!) and cancelled the other auction. I'm sure there are other ways around it but my bidder was happy with that.

I do think you have grounds to cancel, you'll get a non payment thingy but no one looks at them if it is only one.

the seller can just add the 'wrong' email address to their paypal account and then they will receive your payment.

mosschops30 · 13/04/2012 09:50

The wrong email address is in paypal thats the issue.
Im so pissed off, how difficult can it be?

All the seller needed to do was amend his email address, the payment would have then gone through, no need to re-send or cancel anything.

Happened to me, mine didn't match because of the gmail/googlemail thing.

NEVER send a direct payment. Sounds dodgey to me. Just tell him you no longer want to continue. He agrees to cancel, ebay refund his fees, everyone is happy.

mygirllollipop · 13/04/2012 11:52

You can add an email address to paypal, but I don't think you can change the email address auction retrospectively and this is the only way to pay with buyers protection.

MyDogShitsShoes · 13/04/2012 12:38

Yep, I did it. 3 people paid and they all showed as pending.

I spoke to paypal who said my email was wrong.

I amended it, payments immediately registered.

Buyers didn't do anything. All went through as normal.

this happenned to me as a seller once how paypal address was wrong in listing i do not know but it was, it is very difficult to solve best is that you cancel payment there is nothing dodgy about a new invoce directly from sellers paypal account as that is what paypal and ebay told me to do as you can not change paypal address on item retrospectively trouble was with me address had changed to a non existent address which was not mine so i could not change it

mosschops30 · 13/04/2012 16:33

All sorted now and seller even gift wrapped it and posted it to my mum Grin
so im happy and she gets good feedback despite all the hassle
