Weird and annoying high listing fee problem!

This is odd. I'm trying to sell a 1960s milk jug (starting price: four pounds seventy nine) and I listed it 'badly' in the sense that no-one seems to be looking at it.

I decided I wanted to relist it under Pottery porcelain and glass - pottery - art pottery - European.

I've tried 'Change Category' loads of times (getting rid of the old 'Homes and Gardens - dining room - jugs and pitchers' previous choice first). But as soon as I click 'continue' and go down to the bottom of the second page with my new choice 'Pottery, porcelain and glass' listing, I see my listing fee is shown as one pound eighty-five!

I listed my jug over the free listing weekend, so the amended listing should still cost nothing.

I've poked about to see if somehow my 'requirements' had changed and managed to get the listing fee down to 90 pence by uncrossing the section which offers Supersize Image (I think it was). But I couldn't find anything else I could uncross.

I've ended up leaving the jug in 'its original place' (Homes and Gardens). It's not the end of the world, it was a free listing weekend after all. If no-one can help me in time, I'll just list it again some time and hope for better luck.

Fergoose, I have a feeling you may dive in and try to help! If so - THANKS in advance! But I have a feeling that on this occasion I really need an eBay savvy person standing AT MY SHOULDER scrutinising every little bit of my listing setup page...

So, if you suggest anything, Fergoose (or anybody else) and it doesn't work, - well, I still appreciate any suggestion. Posting this particular problem in the hope of being sorted out is a bit of a long shot I think.

I'm not really techno savvy (well, derrr..).

I think you will be charged as you are adding another category - regardless of free listing.

How about cancelling the listing then redoing it in the right category - do you still get charged then? If you do, maybe wait until next free listing or start it at 99p?

fergoose · 12/04/2012 09:52

why don't you go and post on the community boards on eBay itself for advice? Can show them the listing then too?

mygirllollipop · 12/04/2012 10:07

I think the fee structures are different between categories. Try looking for fe structure help on ebay.

Thanks, both. I wasn't actually wanting to ADD another category, Fergoose, - just to change from the one I had currently running, to a different one for the last few days. But even if eBay would charge me the full whack for doing that, my listing fee (no frills at all) should be 25p for something with a starting price of £4.79.

I might go on to the eBay community board as you suggest; that is, if I can be bothered! Over the free listing weekend I realised I could always have scrapped the original listing and started again from scratch - THAT would have got rid of whichever hidden gremlin was messing things up; but setting up an eBay ad is a bit of a pain and I didn't fancy doing it all over again.

I think the fee structures are different in some places in eBay, mygirllollipop, but I'm pretty sure not in the case of the change I'd wanted to make.

Never mind, it's one of those things.....! Thanks for the suggestions.

oh you can't change mid-auction I don't think, only add categories not totally change them - cancel and start again then?

saintlyjimjams · 12/04/2012 17:15

I've had this problem in the past. As fergoose says you can't change mid-auction, only add.

saintlyjimjams · 12/04/2012 17:15

And I spent HOURS trying to change the bloody thing, I eventually found a little note or FAQ somewhere saying it couldn't be done

jimswifein1964 · 13/04/2012 09:19

Its free listing this weekend, if you want to cancel it and redo :)
