Item not received so raised a case, too soon?

An item with what seemed to be a very high postage rate hadn't been received after 2 weeks. Having sent a message to the seller yesterday and not got any acknowledgement for over 24 hours I set up a case via Ebay.

The seller seems to have taken affront and says I should have given them more time to check with the PO.

My point was that I didn't expect them to sort it immediately but wanted reassurance they weren't ignoring it.

How long would you wait for the seller to reply before raising an Item Not Received?

I usually give people the benefit of the doubt and assume that there is some reason they don't reply - I once had a seller go quiet on me but she then emailed a few days later to apologise and let me know that a family member had got badly ill. I would wait a minimum of 3 days if it is a private seller, probably a maximum of 7 days. If they are professional shop on ebay, I would expect an answer in 48 hours. If you are unhappy about the postage, ask for a different postage option before bid end.
