Really quite big bid on item I thought would get about £5....

I've been on ebay for quite some time, selling bits and pieces here and there.

Anyway, have listed a pair of jeans, nothing special (I don't think!) and looking at what these general type of jeans sell for (Topshop, tall Ella style), I was expecting to get about 5 or 6 pounds.

The bids have now gone up to £41!!

I have no experience of this... am i missing something about my jeans' wonderfulness??

I looked at the bidding history and it doesn't appear to be a mistake... and I've had no message asking me to delete their bid.

Can anyone enlighten me as to what might be going on?

Could it be some one with a fondness of worn clothes?

MrsLovely · 17/03/2012 21:49

Arf, how interesting would that be... it's now gone up again to £43, surely no one can love worn clothes that much?

Maybe they are a really comfy fit for someone

HandMadeTail · 17/03/2012 21:53

Provided you haven't inadvertently made a mistake in the details, why worry? You can buy very nice new jeans for £43!

Good luck!

And Envy Wink

I once sold an old and scruffy pair of DH's for £57 Shock.

The person who bought them was delighted with them!

picnicbasketcase · 17/03/2012 21:58

Ew, maybe it is a weirdy kinky thing like the people who buy really old grotty slippers...

Or hopwfully it's just a bidding war between a few people that really like those jeans and can't get any new from anywhere?

KateShmate · 17/03/2012 22:04

Maybe the Topshop 'Tall' range is really hard to get hold of - or maybe they've discontinued those jeans but buyer loves them.
Is good you for anyway! :)

fergoose · 17/03/2012 22:04

Tall clothes can command high prices - could that be why?

Can you compare with other completed listings?

Make sure you dispatch with a signature for that amount - over £46 recorded won't be sufficient so you will need special or courier

KateShmate · 17/03/2012 22:09

FWIW, after breastfeeding I sold some BF vests and bras on eBay - they sold for more than they cost new! Couldn't understand why!

mogs0 · 17/03/2012 22:58

I've mentioned this a few times, sorry...I once sold a monsoon shrug for £44 Shock. It was £40 new but I'd paid £20 for it in the sale and worn it twice.

Also, I've listed a few items of clothing tonight and already have watchers on 5 items...was expecting them to sell for the start price as nothing particularly special so am now hopeful for a bit of interest and hopefully a bid or two!!

Good luck with your jeans...when do they finish?

MrsLovely · 18/03/2012 07:55

They finish today, this afternoon at some point.

They're up to £45 now!!

Unfortunately I'm away all day visiting my mum so can't check again till this evening.

I keep reading the description in case I inadvertently wrote 'lined with 24 carat gold' but it all appears OK......!

I don't get eBay at all, sometimes you list a true bargain and get nothing for it - you list tat (not saying your jeans are tat btw!) and bidders go mental Confused

I think it just depends on whether you get a nutter rich bidder Wink

Chandon · 18/03/2012 08:01

Topshop Ella tall are genius jeans.

I wore my pair till it fell to pieces, and searched heaven and earth and e bay for another pair. Never found them. Never found another pair of jeans that fitted so well.

Off to ebay now Wink

PrimaBallerina · 18/03/2012 09:26

Topshop jeans always sell really well. I've just looked at yours and they're brand new and immaculate so if they're discontinued in store I'm not surprised they're doing so well.

I love eBay for moments like this.

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 18/03/2012 16:56

It will be the 'tall' bit that's done it.

FlouncyMcFlouncer · 18/03/2012 16:57

Sorry I hit 'send' too soon.

I have a tall friend and have often heard her say 'Oh this xxxx is perfect and I wish I'd bought three at once, now I can't get one anywhere and everywhere else is too short - I'd pay anything' etc etc.

maxybrown · 18/03/2012 19:26

it will be the tall bit that has done it - I'm the same but the opposite Grin I am very short - even most petite jeans are too long for me. I once saw a nice pair of Next jeans listed - they had been shortened to just my length - i thought, great will watch those - they sold for just over £40 too Shock (I didn't bid ha ha)

MrsLovely · 18/03/2012 19:45

Well I got home from my Mother's Day duties very excited only to find the jeans finish tomorrow not today!!Confused

They're still at £45, thank you for all your reassurances, I've stopped worrying that I've written some mysterious coded message in my description that has caused the mad bidding frenzy!

Will let you know how it goes tomorrow!

I'm have to buy the tall ranges in shops and there is really no choice. I used eBay mostly for my clothes; and there is never much on there either, so what is on there sells for a fair bit more than standard clothes.

Try being tall AND pregnant! My pregnancys were the worst 18 mon the of my life for finding jeans and trousers. Even eBay couldn't help me :( anyone with any tall maternity clothes will be sitting on a goldmine!!

MrsLovely · 18/03/2012 20:08

Ah. I have tall maternity clothes!

Bloody hell I could be a multi millionaire at this rate!!

OP posts:
mmmmmchocolate · 18/03/2012 20:55

You really bloody could!! Grin

MrsLovely · 20/03/2012 08:51

Well they sold for £45 so am rooting through my wardrobe looking for other tall stuff I can't be bothered to diet to get into that doesn't fit any more.

Then I'm going to retire on the profits!!
