I bid £50 for some boots on ebay and lost, they sold for £51.

Pretty much as soon as the auction ended I received an email from the seller saying that she had another pair for sale for £59 delivered (not too bad as the original delivery cost was £6.50).

However I was a little bit suspicious (why would she have two pairs of the same boots for sale?) so I checked the bidding history. Someone else bid £40, then the same two people kept bidding against each other, neither of them had any feedback and both of them were new to ebay and had never bid on anything else. Then my bid went on, £50, then I was outbid by one of these two.

Does this sound like she was trying to bump the price up? What should i do?

It sounds dodgy to me. How much feedback does the seller have? I would probably steer clear.

Thanks for replying. She has 288 ratings with 100% positive feedback, which I thought sounded good. But then I'm not very experienced with ebay!

check out shill bidding - you can report the listing for it and eBay will investigate

dizzyday07 · 15/03/2012 22:56

Even if she has 2 pairs a second chance offer should have been made at your bid (£50) plus the original postage (£6.50) so £56.50 in total so it's dodgy that she's asked for more to start with!

And are they hugely heavy boots for postage to be so high?

fergoose · 16/03/2012 08:40

Also the seller sent you an email asking for money - an off eBay sale avoiding fees?

A proper second chance offer should have been made, at the price you bid, plus postage, and it should have been via eBay, not via an email

Make sure you report the email to eBay.

thanks for your replies. I have emailed her back and said that I would only consider a second chance offer properly made through ebay.

dizzyday07 - yes they are calf length dr marten boots so the postage is probably pretty high
