Have only been using ebay for a few weeks and have bought and sold.
Today i recieved a badly packaged item, the box my goods were in was damaged which is ok cos its just for me but if i had bought it for a gift, i couldnt have given it.
Secondly i was charged £3.99 recorded, it was sent 2nd class for £1.72.
I didnt want yo leave poor feedback so have emailed the seller what ive put here.

Have i done the right thing?

No it is ok to do that, they need to know that they have not packaged their goods well enough, and the postage is an issue that they need to sort out, it could be an oversight, the seller could have asked someone to pop it to the post office for them, or they could be swinging the lead. Wait for a reply before you put any comments (I also tend to wait for them to leave my feedback to stop any negative on mine in revenge IFSWIM) It could be accidental.
