How do you do Second Chance Offer?

I've sold something, collection only but the buyer has not turned up at agreed time.

How do I do a second chance offer to next highes bidder? Do I have to open a case against the winning bidder to stop the sale or do I go straight to the second chance option?

i take it it was cash on collection and that they have not paid through paypal. best advice i would give you is wait for seven days from the end of the auction and list it as an unpaid item, ebay will cancel the sale recredit any listing fees and selling fees then re list. other wise you will need the other party to agree to cancel the sale before you can do second chance offer,

open unpaid case on day 4, close day 8. Only then should you do second chance offer or relist - otherwise you may have 1 item 2 buyers

if you open an unpaid item case on day four they could then pay via paypal and then leave u negative feedback saying you wouldnt allow them to collect then get a refund through paypal. would advise you leaving it to day 7 or 8 before listing it as an unpaid item case saves you getting any negative feedback, alot of people know this system quite well and if there spiteful an not genuine.
im not arguing with fergoose they are stating the correct information as always but just giving u another point of view here.

It makes no difference though if you open a case on day 4 or 7 though does it? You can't close it until 4 days after opening it, and then the buyer can't leave a neg.

yes actually when ive had to do it in the past it was instantanious ebay closed the case as unpaid within seconds.

DomesticDisaster · 26/02/2012 20:16

Thanks for that. It's all very confusing. I don't know if I'm alone in finding ebay advice on their site no help at all? I've opened an unpaid item case although my DH has now sent a second chance offer to next bidder at the same time so I'm not sure how this works or if it could all go very wrong. Any ideas?

You could end up with 2 buyers and only 1 item if the first buyer pays and the second chance offer person pays too.

You should open and close the unpaid case first before doing an offer or relist.

Ebays site is a bit difficult to get around and most of us learn the hard way only when something goes wrong and how not to let it happen again. good luck with it all you will have to wait and see what happens. come back if u need any more advise mumsnetters will be able to help you.

ah thank you both for that. I have taken your advice fergoose and have withdrawn the offer so hopefully i won't end up with 2 buyers and 2 lots of neg feedback.
Yes kittycat it is definitely a learning curve. I've made lots of mistakes so far but this is a new one for me so far. Hopefully I've semi fixed it....
