I posted PS2 & extras last Wednesday (I have proof of postage).

Seller saying he hasn't received it. I posted it to the address on PayPal invoice.

Today I have gone through my emails and seen that on the email telling me I 'congratulations item sold...' he actually has a different address.

Paypal is the correct address to post to isn't it?

TIA

Yes eBay and PayPal only cover you if you send to the PayPal address

fergoose · 07/02/2012 19:59

yes it is - was it sent tracked. If not you will probably need to refund the buyer in full if they say it hasn't arrived.

smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:01

I thought so. Thank-you

Diana Hmm seems to be misunderstanding what I'm asking. I'll post the chat thread in a minute and thank my lucky stars MN is here, and that I wasn't relying on her to give me a straight answer!

But presumably he's forgotten to update PayPal and it's gone to an old address? That can't be my fault if he hasn't noticed until now can it?

Diana B.
Welcome to eBay Live Help, my name is Diana. How can I help you today?
smacka
Hello - I posted this item last Wednesday (I have proof of postage). Seller saying he hasn't received it. I posted it to the address on PayPal invoice. Today I have seen that on the email telling me I have sold the item, he actually has a different address.
smacka
If he states that I have posted it to the incorrect address; what should I do?
Diana B.
Hello Smacka.
Diana B.
I understand you're concerned about the item you returned to your seller and the they haven't receive it yet.
Diana B.
Did I got you correctly?
smacka
yes
Diana B.
Thank you for confirming.
Diana B.
May I ask, have you confirmed with the seller the address before returning the item?
smacka
I have emailed him stating I posted it to the address listed on the PayPal invoice.
smacka
If he says I should have posted it to another address; what should I do?
Diana B.
If that is the case, I suggest that you contact the postal carrier.
Diana B.
If the seller did not receive the item, postal carrier may offer a compensation for that.
smacka
OK - which address is correct? PayPal or the one on 'item sold' notification from Ebay
Diana B.
You have to contact the seller to clarify it.
Diana B.
Would you like me to give you the steps on how to request for the seller's contact details?
smacka
No thank-you. I'd like to know that if addresses are different - which address should the seller post to - PayPal or notification of sale email.
Diana B.
Due to our privacy policy, we are not allowed to give the member's information directly.
Diana B.
I'd still recommend that you get in touch with the seller.
smacka
I'm not asking for that. I'd like to know my rights as a seller for posting to the address on the PayPal invoice - if the buyer states that address is not correct
Diana B.
You will be covered by PayPal's Seller Protection program.
smacka
That's great. Thanks so much for you help.
Diana B.
You're most welcome.

erm that is totally wrong - you meant buyer!

And you won't be covered by seller protection without a tracking number. All you can do is claim with royal mail for lost item

smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:13

Who's wrong Fergoose?

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:14

Oh - Diana got confused and was talking about the seller wasn't she?

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:15

Oh shit - so did I

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:16

Oh bloody hell - it looked like I was talking about returning an item.

Well that was a happy waste of 10 minutes!

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:18

Oh FFS I did it at the start of this thread too didn't I.

Bangs head on keyboard.

OP posts:
fergoose · 07/02/2012 20:18

did you send the item with a tracking number?

smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:19

No [insert idiot emoticon]

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:20

I think I have overcomplicated things.

I posted to the address on the PayPal payment.

I don't think that the buyer lives at that address anymore.

OP posts:
fergoose · 07/02/2012 20:21

in that case you are reliant on the buyers honesty. Either way it has only been 4 working days. Tell the buyer if it hasn't arrived within 15 working days (3 weeks) then it is considered lost and you will need to refund and claim from royal mail for the lost item.

fergoose · 07/02/2012 20:21

well could you ask them to check at the old address?

smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:22

Thanks fergoose.

That's the point isn't it. I need him to admit that he hasn't updated paypal. I also need him to go to his old address, collect the item and give me good feedback!

OP posts:
smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:23

I'm waiting to hear back from him.

I had this happen on Amazon once. Someone bought a textbook from me, I sent it off the same day. Next day they emailed to ask if I could send it to their new address. I didn't have a tracking number, and realised that in a sleep-deprived haze I also hadn't put return info on it.

I called Amazon to ask them what to do and they said that sellers must post to the listed address and can't send based on an email, so it was entirely the buyers problem and they'd have to sort it out their end.

Thank goodness.

Anyway, I always assumed ebay worked on the same principal so I think it's the buyers issue. I don't think you need him to admit anything, surely the paypal transaction shows whichever address he had listed at the time?

smackapacca · 07/02/2012 20:36

Thank-you.

I really hope that it does get resolved, but it's all on him really.

I fall in and out of love with Ebay and now I'm thinking of leaving the bastard Angry

:o

TalkinPeace2 · 08/02/2012 16:19

NB
Proof of posting is NOT the same as proof of delivery
for an xbox you should have used SD (as recorded is not insured to enough)
if you didn't you are at the mercy of paypoo sadly

smackapacca · 08/02/2012 18:04

I know, I know - lesson learnt. (Was a PS2 though... not an xbox - that makes a MASSIVE difference obviously!)

OP posts:
smackapacca · 08/02/2012 21:30

I haven't heard from him at all today.

Does anyone think I should contact him?

OP posts:
fergoose · 08/02/2012 21:32

No - just leave it and wait to hear from him I reckon.
