i want to set up an ebay shop and would love some one to talk to me about how to do it. I don't have a clue about fees or anything. I have looked on eBay but wanted some advise from some one who has been there done that. Also need to find out about vat.

I have a shop, what would you like to know?

Fees: The basic shop is £15 per month
Shop items listing fee is 10p for 30 days and it automatically relists it each 30 days until it sells or you end it. This covers any quantity i.e. for 1 item its 10p or for 50 of an item it's 10p
FVF is the same as for auctions
I assume you are setting this up as a business so you will need a business seller account which means you lose the free listings for 99p items, and you can't participate in free listing weekends.

I set it up just following the menu system on ebay. I'd recommend picking a theme and keeping with it so that as you grow, people recognise your listings. But it is all customisable so you can do this at any stage. Also look into promotions, and newsletters etc

VAT is only an issue if you think your turnover will be more than a set amount - check out the HMRC website.

Hope that helps but any questions please ask.

There are 2 types of Ebay accounts - personal and business. If you are buying items in to sell then you should be registered as a business.

I'm afraid I don't know anything about selling handbags - I sell crafting items. There are some limits imposed on certain categories, if you look around the help section on Ebay you should find the information - it's typically imposed on items that are regularly counterfeited so handbags may well be on the list.

If you don't already have an account there are limits on how many items a newbie can sell in a month, and may well have limits imposed on how many in a certain category, for example, my DS has started selling his old Xbox games and could only list 10 at a time for the first 3 months. I don't know if a newbie can open a shop - I was a long timer before opening mine. The limits are lifted if you get good feedback etc.
