Can anyone advise re sending large/heavy items by courier or Royal Mail?

I have sold books on Ebay before, and usually send them using signed-for Royal Mail delivery - no problems so far, and buyers have been happy. I need to do some New Year decluttering, and want to sell some larger collections of books, and some bundles of clothes and toys. I have never used couriers before but wondered if they are a reliable and cheaper option? Grateful for any advice!

I trot this one out all the time - but they are brilliant and cheap. Plus you can drop off and no waiting in for a courier

Delivery can take 3-5 days, but is often much quicker

Many thanks for that - there is a shop just down the road where I can drop off!
