Buyer won't pay - shitty e-mail or not?

I sold an item on behalf of my ds on Sunday night and sent an invoice. Buyer hadn't paid or contacted me by Wed so I sent an e-mail through e-bay requesting payment. He said son had bid without him knowing and he didn't want to buy it so could I send him an invitation to cancel and I would not have to pay fees.

I have spoken to cs at Ebay and they have started a dispute(I think) and will contact buyer to see if he agrees with sale being cancelled. I have done a second chance offer so fingers crossed! CS said I could do this now.

I am really annoyed because the buyer could have contacted me after he received the 'you've won' email, or the invoice but didn't bother. I am pushed now to sell it before Xmas what with the post running out of time.

Is there any reason I shouldn't e-mail him back stating the above and saying he has created hastle for me (son is disappointed as he was going to buy Xmas presents with the money) and could have let me know?

Also, is there any way of seeing what bids the son supposedly made as apparently he won lots of things? I'd be interested to see if he's telling the truth or not. He has 96% feedback, for disappearing and not paying.

no - just file a non paying bidder report against him to get your fees back and issue him a strike. What dispute have eBay started for you? - it should be visible in the resolution centre.

Look at goofbay if you want to see what they are buying

Sorry, got to run but says: Case type : Cancel transaction . Status, buyer has not responded.

Is Goofbay a separate web-site?

which is ridiculous as the buyer can still leave feedback - that is the wrong cancellation. It should be a non paying bidder report which gives the buyer a strike and prevents them from leaving feedback

yes goofbay is a separate site

Think this may have been done because I said I didn't want to wait until day 7 to re-list item as I didn't want to miss the Xmas market.

Just had e-mail to say buyer has agreed to cancel sale and buyer has thanked me. Still feel like e-mailing him back though saying he could have let me know before, also want him to get a strike through (whatever that is). Want to leave negative feedback to warn other sellers. Is there any reason not to do this?

Have looked at goofbay but interestingly not much is on there, the item he bought from me does not show up.

you can't leave neg feedback for a buyer any more

Helennn · 15/12/2011 17:33

not even a passive agressive comment? ie "it would have been nice if he'd let me know" type of thing ..... Just think he shouldn't get away with it and should warn other sellers.

Thanks very much for your help - think mumsnet should give you an 'ebay expert' award!

nope - if you leave a neg comment on a positive rating it can be removed as it is against the rules, which is crummy I agree.

I agree he shouldn't get away with it, which is why eBay should have opened a non paying bidder dispute then the buyer would at least have got a strike. But it is done now, at least you have your final fees back and hopefully a 2nd chance buyer too? but then I guess by cancelling transaction immediately it does let you do a 2nd chance offer straight away without waiting a further 4 days to close the case.

I know it is frustrating, but my advice is don't upset yourself getting into angry emails or feedback, it really isn't worth causing yourself any more stress. I know the buyer was rubbish, but if you send a cross email they may send one back, you will get upset and want to retaliate, and it is all just not worth the upset in my opinion.

Happy to help, even if I am saying what you don't really want to hear :)

Thanks very much - I know you're right. Just hope I sell it in time for Xmas - for my sons sake, and mine!

Don't know how ebay managed to stop sellers leaving neg. feedback without a riot though! Completely one-sided and very frustrating.

Thanks for your time.

Hi, sorry to crash but this has happened to me too. How do I get eBay to have it as a non paying bidder?

from my eBay go to account then resolution centre then select I haven't received payment

Caz10 · 18/12/2011 18:25

That is brilliant thank you!

rabbid · 18/12/2011 18:27

on advance search you could see what else they had bid on

FabbyChic · 21/12/2011 23:10

Send a shitty email and they could pay then initiate a non receipt dispute just so they could leave you a neg.

Remember the buyer has power more than you do. Disputes and negative feedback go against your seller account.

Never send a shitty email. Just open an NPD on day four and be done with it.
