Ive had an email from paypal to say funds held from a transcation. The item was signed for yesterday but signature is rubbish.

What happens from here? I have proof of postage/tracking number.

is the buyer claiming not to have received the item?

you just need to give the tracking info to paypal in that case

sleepevader · 14/12/2011 16:39

I have just received a reply from the buyer after contacting her to ask if all okay as Ive had an email from paypal.

She says no everything ok. Shes had the item and is happy and was just about to leave feedback.

Very confused now!

so is the hold on the money as a result of a chargeback?

Have you given paypal the tracking info?

sleepevader · 14/12/2011 17:01

I'm really not sure. Email said funds being held due to reversal by buyers bank. Will contact you at later date with details.

When logging in payment shows at held.

No further info given.

I have just had the same thing happen to me! I sold a gerbil tank last month, received positive feedback, then yesterday got an e mail from paypal saying that the payment may not have been authorised by the buyer, and to not post the item ( bit late as auction ended on 30th Nov!) and the payment is on hold pending investigations.
I contacted the buyer to check they had received the item, and she e mailed back to say she's really pleased and it is already a home to 2 gerbils. She says she has not had any e mails from paypal, and hasn't tried to cancel the payment. She had a feedback score of 500+ so I'm inclined to believe her.
Hopefully it is a paypal error, and we will get our money back.

The payment has bounced your buyer used bank funding its like a direct debit, it is initiated when the buyer pays, when PayPal have gone to get the direct debit it has failed due to insufficient funds.

Your signature might be accepted, but doubtful, PayPal do not cover bounced payments you will have to ask your buyers to pay again.

Happyfeet yours is different as so much time has elapsed your buyer has initiated a chargeback or advised his bank fraudulent transaction. You will need proof of delivery via online tracking if you cannot provide it you will be charged £7 on top of losing the money for the item.

sleepevader · 14/12/2011 20:09

I hope not as payment was made on 8th dec so of course I sent it. I fail to see why I should be out if pocket if buyer doesn't pay again. Isn't this what paypal is suppose to protect against.

The chargeback for my item was 13 days after the paypal payment was made (and 12 days after I posted it),surely if the buyer has no funds to pay, paypal would have acted sooner? The buyer has made several smallish transactions since.
I have scanned the proof of postage to paypal tonight in case that helps, although if paypal have access to my ebay messages, they will know the buyer has stated she received the item and is happy with it.
This definitely puts me off selling on ebay again.

sleepevader · 09/01/2012 17:46

Paypal have said I'm covered by seller protection as I sent recorded and I will receive money back eventually. Provided this proof 18th dec. Really annoyed as nothing I can do until paypal pay up.

Something like that happened to me when I used the new "basket/checkout" feature. One seller's paypal wasn't working properly (as it turned out after i'd contacted him) so paypal reversed all five transactions, then paid four of them again. The fifth seller did get his payment days later and sent the item but it still appeared on ebay as pending. All very [confusing]

thefroggy · 09/01/2012 18:16

Confused even!

sleepevader · 10/01/2012 15:16

Thanks.
