Sending item to a different address?

Hi there

Dh has sold items on eBay and one of the buyers has asked for the item to be sent to their work address?

Is this ok? It is quite a hIgh value item. Is it still covered by paypal? Should he reply registered address only? Or is it ok? I have asked sellers in the past to send to alternative address with no issues and have done so as a seller. However dh is quite different and would hate it to go wrong for him.

no - you should only send to the address given by paypal otherwise you aren't covered

if the buyer wants it sent to another address, first you need to refund their paypal payment, then the buyer must add the gift address to their paypal account, then they need to select that address when they pay you again- then you will be covered. And obviously send it with a signature too if it is high value item.

Or you could ask for bank transfer instead - but still send with a signature is my advice :)

Thanks fergoose

Dh asks why isn't he covered and what could go wrong?

My answer of just isn't cutting the mustard.

you have to send to the correct address given by paypal to qualify for seller protection - if you send to the 'wrong' address then it could have gone to anyone, ie not the buyer, so you must only send to the address the buyer has registered with Paypal.

Here is an excerpt of user agreement

'A key eligibility requirement of the Seller Protection Programme is that the seller must post the item to the address which appears on the transaction details page. If the item is delivered in person or if a seller posts the item to a different address (for example, if the buyer asks that you send to another address on the basis that it is a ?work address? or a ?gift? address) then you will not be eligible for re-imbursement under the terms of the programme'

which is taken from here - which is the contract which you agree to when you sign up with paypal

Thanks

Think we are going to ask to refund and add as an additional address.
