Buyer hasn't received posted item - what next?

Sent an item a week ago. I reckon it's Royal Mail being a tad slow, but am getting daily 'Where's my item?' emails.

I have the Cert of Posting. Is it my responsibility as seller to sort it out, or can I send this to the buyer advising them to take it up with Royal Mail?

Thanks...

Unfortunately, it is your reponsibility. You have to refund the buyer and then you can take it up with Royal Mail to get your money back.

Ebay /Paypal will take the side of the buyer. It's likely if it doesn't turn up that you'll have to refund them.
i always send everything recorded delivery now. I once had a bloke who said he hadn't received the item he'd bought, and claimed via ebay for an item not received and got refunded via paypal.

I said to him "oh that's funny how you've not received it, as the recorded delivery slip is showing that you signed for it"

His response was "there was no recorded delivery sticker on the item when I got it"
So he'd got it and then when i caught him out, he still got refunded by paypal

I would ask the buyer to wait a little longer first if I were you - an item is not considered lost until 15 working days have passed, I think them badgering you after 5 is a little excessive

Ask them to check with sorting office & neighbours maybe?
