I have placed a bid for a wardrobe on Ebay - have only bid 5 quid but I may win the item (auction has another few days to go). Thing is, I have recently seen a much, much nicer wardrobe on Ebay to collect very locally and I want that instead! Obviously, somebody may bid more and then I have no problem but my question is, would it be awfully rude if, assuming I am the highest bidder, I pay for the wardrobe but let the sellers know that I won't be collecting (and apologise profusely ) so they can re-list straight away.

Its the first time I've messed up like this as I usually wait until the last few minutes to place a bid. Am assuming the owners just want rid of the wardrobe and this was the cheapest way to do it.

Or should I contact them straight away (and still offer to send the fiver through the post - obviously I don't want them to have Paypal fees for such a little amount )

Oh, have just checked this on Ebay and although my max bid was 5 quid, no one else has bid and my bid stands at 1 pence . Please advise

You can retract your bid if you wish, contact the seller ask them to remove your bid if they dont just retract it, you cannot retract when there is less than 12 hours to go.

just fuill in bid cancellation form it easy its there afor mistakes like if you bid £99 instead of 99p you can see how many bids a buyer has retracted so if they had retracted 45 bids you would know they were schilling but 2 would be fine and most folks never check that anyhow
