Parcel Returned to Sender

I sent a jacket to Germany on 27th October via international signed for small packets (Royal Mail). This is tracked within the UK and requires a signature at the other end however the buyer still hadn't received it this week despite it usually taking about 5 days.

Then yesterday I had the parcel returned to me! When I go to the tracking info it obviously only has UK tracking so I can't work out if it ever reached him and he failed to collect it from the depot etc? Royal Mail also don't know. It cost £10.50 to post so not a small amount...

Does anyone know what should happen now? Do I have to pay to redeliver? Am I entitled to a refund from RM? Thanks!

Ok just a bit of further info - it transpires from Deutsche Post that it tried to delivery but the parcel wasn't collected from the sorting office by the recipient so was returned after 2 weeks...

Does he now have to pay for redelivery?

yes I guess they should if they did get a card through the door and didn't collect or arrange redelivery

but if they go to eBay and claim item not received they will receive a full refund including the P&P

Is that the case even with a tracking number?

yes if the item wasn't delivered they will get a full refund if they claim not received.

Have you emailed the buyer telling them you have the item back?

Yes I contacted them about an hour ago asking them if they would like me to resend it at their cost or I can refund. It doesn't seem fair that I would have to resend at my cost especially when we're talking £10.50, plus new mail bag +packing etc.

I go away for 2 weeks tomorrow so need them to respond by tonight at the latest if they want me to resend tomorrow morning! Sometimes selling is stressful!
